Formation activities
What are training activities?
Training activities are aspects of research training that aim to ensure the acquisition of doctoral-level skills (research, innovation, transfer, etc.), facilitating the development and dissemination of original research, as well as promoting internationalization, open science and citizen science.

What types of training activities can be carried out?
PhD students can carry out training activities where they acquire skills transversal o specific on disciplinary and methodological knowledge of various kinds:

Who organizes the training activities offered by the URJC EID?
Training activities transversal They are organized by the International Doctoral School (EID) and the training activities specific by the different doctoral programs at the URJC.
Who are the EID training activities aimed at?
Training activities are aimed at students enrolled in URJC doctoral programs during the corresponding academic year.
How many hours of training activities must be completed per academic year?
A minimum of 40 hours of training activities must be completed per academic year, regardless of whether the doctoral studies are part-time or full-time.
Where can I find the training activities offered by the EID?
From the 2024/25 academic year, the offer and information on each training activity can be consulted at the following link: https://doctorado.urjc.es/curso/oferta
It can also be consulted in the dynamic calendar of activities, via web in html format (Web calendar) or by subscribing to its manager (.ics): ICS manager
The offer may be subject to changes (cancellations or addition of new activities) throughout the course, so it is recommended to check it frequently.
How can I register for training activities?
In order to manage registration for training activities and improve our procedures, the International Doctoral School has launched a new platform, which can be found at the following link: https://doctorado.urjc.es/doctor/
If the registration period for an activity is open, clicking on “Registration” from the offer website will redirect you to the platform.
To gain access, you must identify yourself using the URJC SSO centralized authentication system, entering your student and/or URJC staff credentials (Username and Password).
Only registrations made through the platform will be considered valid.
The PhD student will be notified from the platform whether or not he or she has been admitted to the activity.
How and when will I receive the certificate of having completed an EID training activity?
The International Doctoral School will certify participation in a training activity only to those who meet the following requirements:
- Registration: having received notification of the allocation of a place on the course
- Assistance: having attended at least 80% of the training hours
- Evaluation: having passed the tests or assessment activities set by the teaching staff and
- Satisfaction survey: having completed the activity satisfaction survey
Once all the requirements have been verified, the certificates will be issued by the EID and can be downloaded from the platform https://doctorado.urjc.es/doctor/, without Need to request them.
Can training activities outside of the EID offer be carried out?
Yes, but you must first consult with your supervisor and tutor. In addition, it is advisable to contact the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program in advance to obtain their approval and ensure that these activities will be recognized.
Who validates the training activities?
The training activities offered by the EID will be recognized with the approval of the director or thesis tutor of the doctoral student, without the need for prior approval by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program.
External training activities must be approved by both the PhD student's thesis director and tutor and the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program.
What platform is used to manage training activities?
The EID has launched a platform to manage registration for training activities. Access to this platform is available at the link https://doctorado.urjc.es/doctor/ and is accessible using the credentials of your URJC institutional email account.
Research plan and personal training plan
Before the end of the first academic year and with the assistance of his/her supervisor and tutor, the doctoral student will have to prepare a document that includes a research plan and a personal training plan.
PhD students who enrolled for the first time before the 2023/24 academic year only had to prepare a research plan.
What is the research plan?
The research plan is a document that will include at least the objectives to be achieved and the methodology to be used, as well as the means and time planning to achieve it.
What is the personal training plan?
The personal training plan is a document that includes the type of training activities that the doctoral candidate is expected to carry out during his or her doctoral thesis. This plan includes courses, mobility activities, etc.

Is there a template for creating the document?
Yes, the document will follow the format established by the EID, which can be found in the INFORMATION tab, the Thesis Supervision and Monitoring sub-tab (RAPI) - Access to RAPI and forms.
Can the research plan and/or activities scheduled in the training plan be modified?
Yes, it is a living document that can be modified throughout the PhD student's stay in the program.
The doctoral candidate may modify the type and number of activities scheduled in his or her personal training plan, as well as the research plan.
Changes must be endorsed by the director and academic tutor and approved by the academic committee of the doctoral program.

What is the PhD student activity document?
The activities document is the individual record of all training activities carried out by the doctoral student.
This document must be reviewed and updated regularly and can be downloaded from the RAPI platform.
IMPORTANT: Training activities must be recorded properly classified and with the correct name, since they will be incorporated into the activities document that will accompany the doctoral degree and will give rise to the European Diploma Supplement (EDS).
What types of activities should be included in the activities document?
All training activities carried out by the doctoral student must be included, such as:
- Publications of the results of his research
- Dissemination of the results of your research
- Research stays
- Specific and transversal training activities organized by the EID or other organizations
- Etc.
Who is responsible for providing certifications of the activities carried out?
It is the PhD student's responsibility to provide, through the RAPI platform, the director, tutor and academic committee with certifications to record the activities carried out and the number of hours.
How are training activities managed at the URJC?
The training activities organised by the International Doctoral School (EID) are pre-loaded on the RAPI platform. The PhD student only needs to select the activity carried out from a drop-down list and attach the certificate of completion. The other activities will have to be loaded manually, entering all the necessary data (title of the activity, type, number of hours, etc.).
How many hours of training activities must be completed per academic year?

Who evaluates the activities document and how often?
The activities document must be evaluated annually by the tutor and the thesis director, and subsequently, by the academic committee of the doctoral program.
