The seminar I VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE CONFERENCE "Architecture in earth, heritage and sustainability" will take place next Tuesday, the 29th at 14.00:XNUMX p.m. on the Fuenlabrada campus. These conferences are organized jointly by the Department of Architectural Projects and the Department of Construction of the Architecture Degree of the URJC. In fact, project students from all courses are working in this context in this first semester, contributing proposals.

The seminar arises with a certain vocation for continuity to bring us closer to vernacular architecture as a teaching tool in the field of architecture for all students.

In this case we approach the vernacular architecture built on land in southern Morocco.

The seminar will feature prominent figures from the sector who have had direct contact with the site. Among them is Faissal Cherradi, advisor to the Moroccan Ministry of Culture, who has a long history of promoting and preserving this UNESCO-listed heritage site.

Brief summary of the program content.

"The seminar is about the existing urban settlements in the pre-Saharan valleys of southern Morocco. This architecture is a paradigm of earthen construction as well as its capacity to formalize a social and cultural habitat over the centuries, providing the environment with a heritage character. In the same way, the seminar aims to show the urban, spatial and constructive wealth, as well as its relationship with the landscape, which is exemplified in urban enclaves such as the Ksar of Tamnougalt. The vocation is to identify and expose characteristics of this architecture that serve as tools for the architectural project also in contemporary times."

The speakers will be Valentina Cristini (a professor at the UPV and an architect at Res-Arquitectura), Faissal Cherradi, advisor to the Ministry of Culture of Morocco, Oriol Cusidó (a member of RehabiMed and an architect at T9s arquitectes) and Emili Manrique (associate professor at the URJC in the Architecture Degree).

The seminar is organized by Elisa Bailliet and Emili Manrique, both professors in the Architecture Degree at URJC.
