Meeting of the association of scientific journals in Communication and young researchers

Written by COMMUNITYMANAGER, COMMUNICATION

The day will take place next November 10th in the Hall of Degrees (Departmental building) of campus of Vicálvaro el Meeting of the association of scientific journals in Communication (PlatCom) and young researchers. A conference between associated journals and new researchers with the aim of establishing an annual meeting point that collects the concerns of the different agents involved in scientific production activities.

The journal index.comunicación, attached to the Rey Juan Carlos University and which since 2022 assumes the Presidency of the Association of Scientific Journals in Communication PLATCOM, organizes and develops a conference between associated journals and new researchers with the aim of establishing an annual meeting point that collects the concerns of the different agents involved in scientific production activities. A series of needs related to scientific publication processes are proposed to publicize the structures of journals, processes and workflows, current demands by publications, review and evaluation systems, etc. At the same time, it is conceived as a platform to share concerns and resolve common doubts for those who are starting out in scientific production tasks, by having the presence of relevant figures in the publishing field.

It has been a decade since the creation of PLATCOM, an association made up of prestigious Spanish scientific communication journals, such as Mediterránea de Comunicación, Fotocinema, Fonseca Journal of Communication, Miguel Hernández Communication Journal, Communication Papers, adComunica, Irocamm, Sphera Pública, Latin Magazine of Social Communication, ZER Magazine and index.comunicación. Many of them are included in evaluation systems and high-impact scientific databases, a quality that guarantees their scope and professional commitment in the publishing field of our country. Among the main tasks of the association stands out that of ensuring good practices in the sector, as well as encouraging rigor in scientific production. In this way, and following what is stated in its statutes, article 2 underlines "the promotion, promotion and dissemination of scientific knowledge of Social Communication", a purpose that is pursued with the meeting.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Publicize the Association, its purposes and its members (journals), as well as its role in the doctoral thesis, the publishing sector and the accreditation processes.
  2. Explain the editorial process and the internal functioning of the journals, emphasizing the journey of the research work from its submission to its publication or rejection.
  3. Raise awareness about the importance of good practice and good editorial habits related to sending communication proposals, plagiarism, communication processes with journals, etc.
  4. Know the typologies, formats, requirements... of doctoral theses, as well as the importance of scientific publications in relation to the doctoral thesis itself and subsequent accreditation processes.
  5. Identify the mechanisms that underlie the publication processes, insisting on the commitments and obligations of the parties involved.
  6. Determine the most suitable strategies for submitting manuscripts through knowledge of the positions and demands of journals today.
