The conference addresses the digital transformation that the news media ecosystem is undergoing from the perspective of how disinformation can be combated, increasing digital capacities in the University and contributing to innovation in higher education and professional training.
Numerous recent studies have shown that although digital skills have increased in recent years, both university teachers and students are neither immune nor less vulnerable to fake news and misinformation online. Disinformation techniques are increasingly sophisticated and it is therefore more complex to detect when intentional actions are taking place aimed at conditioning public opinion. In addition, there is a need, among social organizations, to design actions that train citizens, especially the youngest, digital and technical skills in a holistic way, instead of doing it in a disparate way.
Fortunately, there are more and more initiatives that, from different fields (civil society, educational programs, innovation laboratories, research and innovation projects...) are launching initiatives aimed at improving these capacities. For this reason, the purpose of the conference is to present different initiatives that are aimed at reducing social polarization, combating fake news and disinformation and that are helpful both for university professors and students, as well as educators of civil society.
