Pimp culture: youth subcultures, consumption and media

Written by COMMUNITYMANAGER, COMMUNICATION

The macarras and the macarreo are part of the Spanish popular culture. As much as they are reviled as a marginal expression, typical of circles close to crime and even criminals, they do not stop having an important projection in cultural production.

The latest album by the artist C. Tangana, The Madrilenian (2021), or the movie The laws of the border (2021), by Daniel Monzón −based on the homonymous book by Javier Cercas (2012)−, or Breeding Rats (2016) by Carlos Salado, to name just the most current ones, are a good example of how the badass aesthetic has been incorporated into Spanish popular culture. The pimp constitutes an archetype of a rebellious, violent and rebellious young man emerged from the popular strata in urban environments. A figure who is placed within the "dangerous classes" by "respectable society", which makes her both feared and seductive. This conference aims to bring the figure of the pimp to university students, for which it has prominent figures from the academic and literary world who have approached the pimp culture in his work.

Registration for the Conference is free and has been recognized with 0,35 ECTS for the academic recognition of credits by the Rey Juan Carlos University. Priority will be given to students of the Rey Juan Carlos University and acceptance will be made in order of registration until capacity is reached. Attendees who have not been able to register will be placed on a waiting list.
