Free online course "How to get an international journalism scholarship"

Today, Monday, June 17, and next Wednesday, June 19, from 16 to 18 p.m., the Italian journalist Jacopo Ottaviani teaches, free of charge and online, andthe workshop How to get an international journalism scholarship.

The workshop aims to provide a comprehensive exploration of journalism grant applications. Designed for people interested in media-related fundraising, the session covers essential topics, from effective grant-seeking strategies to project management fundamentals and impact measurement. Inspired by successful projects funded by leading organizations such as E.J.C.ICFJPulitzer CenterCode for Africa y JournalismFund.eu, participants will gain practical knowledge on how to apply for a journalism grant and measure the success and impact of their projects. The workshop, with no prerequisites, also addresses problem mitigation with real-world examples. In addition, the workshop will include a simulation activity and will allow attendees to apply their new knowledge collaboratively.

The workshop is organized by the XR COM LAB from the King Juan Carlos University and the Master of Investigative Journalism, New Narratives, Data, Fact-checking and Transparency from the Rey Juan Carlos University and El Confidencial, and is financed by the Echegaray Chair of Excellence (CAM Excellence Program - Manuel Gértrudix)

JACOPO OTTAVIANI (XLinkedIn) is a computer science expert and senior strategist who works as Chief Data Officer at Code for Africa. As an ICFJ Knight Fellow during the 2016-2019 period, Jacopo built teams and designed programs with the support of the World Bank, Google News Initiative, GIZ, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The mix of his technical skills, as an expert in computing and in data journalism, has resulted in a series of projects published, among others, by the Thomson Reuters Foundation, Der Spiegel, El País and Internazionale. He has worked on multiple projects funded by the Pulitzer Center and the European Journalism Center. He is also a member of the European Press Prize preparatory committee and works as a trainer at BBC Media Action.
