Dr. Antonio Álvarez Badillo began by speaking about the Camino de Santiago and disability, showing all the difficulties that a person with a disability can encounter, but also many examples of overcoming them. His brother Rafael, who has Down syndrome, told us about his experience of doing the Camino by bicycle.
Next, a tribute was paid to Dr. Jesús María Carrillo Esteban, who recently passed away. He was an emeritus professor at the Faculty of Psychology at the UCM and a frequent contributor to the Cinema and Disability conferences, the courses on cinema with values, cinema and human rights conferences, co-direction of theses, classes in the Master's in Motor Neurocontrol, thesis or TFM tribunals, quality assurance commission for the Master's in Motor Neurocontrol, publications and educational innovation projects, among other activities.
After the break, Dr. Susana Collado Vázquez spoke about strokes in film, literature and television, using film and literary fragments to illustrate the matter. As a relevant aspect, she highlighted the importance of knowing the prevention measures and early detection signs in order to act quickly, as well as giving visibility to this pathological condition. Next, Javier Ambite Quesada, scriptwriter, focused on disability in animated films and offered many examples, such as Cuerdas, tres ratones ciegos, Shrek or Heidi, among many other titles. The day concluded with a speech by Guillermo Balmori, editor of the Notorious publishing house specialising in film, who spoke to us about disability in classic Hollywood, mentioning titles such as La escalera de caracol, Que el cielo la juzgue, Luces de la ciudad, La loba, Sola en la oscura or Amarga victoria, among others.
