Basic Information

Presentation

This proposed micro-credential addresses a real and growing training need among teachers, especially primary school teachers, who must teach the subject of Environmental Knowledge (formerly Social and Experimental Sciences) without having received, in many cases, in-depth specific training that allows them to adequately educate their own students.

This situation not only harms the students themselves, but also contributes to the professional insecurity of the teachers and limits the possibilities of developing, both in themselves and in the children, the optimal levels of critical thinking, historical awareness and sensitivity towards the environment and culture.

To this we must add the fact that, given the rapid advancement of current technologies, fully integrated with innovative methodologies, teacher training programs, despite their efforts, do not always achieve optimal adaptation to this reality. In this context, one of constant advancement and personal growth demanded by continuing education, this micro-credential is offered as a flexible, up-to-date tool designed to facilitate and ensure the professional performance of teachers.

On the other hand, from a cultural perspective, social and cultural knowledge acts as an antidote to racist and exclusionary attitudes and behaviors, both among teachers and students, and fosters a harmonious environment. Through this training, teachers can transform their classrooms into spaces for dialogue that promote coexistence and respect among an increasingly diverse citizenry.

Finally, from a professional standpoint, this micro-credential has a use beyond teacher training itself. It is of direct interest because courses accredited with ECTS credits are valued in the competitive examinations and merit-based selection processes that candidates for public education positions undergo, and their content aligns with some of the topics covered in these processes.

In this way, through this micro-credential, we not only promote the training of teachers, but also contribute to the improvement of public education.
