Where will I be able to work when I graduate?
The profession of dentist opens up a wide field of possibilities in private activity, either as a self-employed professional or as hired by other professionals or companies. In the public system, dentistry is integrated, with numerous vacancies in health centers and some, although scarce, in hospitals. There is also an offer of places in the health system of the nation's army.

Recommended Income Profile
Regarding the recommended entry profile, no restriction is placed other than that established by law (PAU), although the student who accesses these teachings should have, apart from training in health sciences essential to pursue these studies, the following features:

Objectives
The fundamental objective of the Curriculum in Dentistry is to train a professional with adequate knowledge, skills, attitudes and competences, who is trained to serve society by satisfying its health demands, both in its prevention, diagnosis and treatment, ethically, efficiently and safely. This professional must appreciate the need for professional development and continuous training throughout life, must be able to efficiently use advances in knowledge and technology and understand the central role of the patient in therapeutic decision-making.

- 1. Know the essential elements of the dental profession, including ethical principles and legal responsibilities.
- 2. Understand the importance of such principles for the benefit of the patient, society and the profession, with special attention to professional secrecy.
- 3. Know how to identify the patient's concerns and expectations, as well as communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing, with patients, family members, the media and other professionals.
- 4. Understand and recognize the social and psychological aspects relevant to the treatment of patients.
- 5. Know how to apply the principles of anxiety and stress control on oneself, on patients and on other members of the dental team.
- 6. Understand the importance of developing a professional practice that respects the patient's autonomy, their beliefs and culture.

Scientific foundations of dentistry. Acquisition and critical assessment of information.
- 11. Understand the basic biomedical sciences on which Dentistry is based to ensure correct oral and dental care.
- 12. Understand and recognize the normal structure and function of the stomatognathic apparatus, at the molecular, cellular, tissue and organic levels, in the different stages of life.
- 13. Understand and recognize the science of biomaterials essential for dental practice as well as the immediate management of possible allergies to them.
- 14. Learn about the general processes of the disease, including infection, inflammation, alterations of the immune system, degeneration, neoplasia, metabolic alterations and genetic disorders.
- 15. Be familiar with the general pathological characteristics of diseases and disorders that affect organic systems, specifically those that have oral repercussions.
- 16. Understand the fundamentals of action, indications and efficacy of drugs and other therapeutic interventions, knowing their contraindications, interactions,
systemic effects and interactions with other organs, based on the available scientific evidence. - 17. Understand and recognize the principles of ergonomics and safety at work (including cross-infection control, radiation protection, and occupational and biological diseases).
- 18. Know, critically assess and know how to use clinical and biomedical information sources to obtain, organize, interpret and communicate scientific and health information.
- 19. Know the scientific method and have the critical capacity to assess established knowledge and new information. Being able to formulate hypotheses, collect and critically assess information for problem solving, following the scientific method.
Clinical skills: Diagnosis, prognosis and planning of dental treatment.
- 20. Obtain and prepare a clinical history containing all the relevant information.
- 21. Know how to carry out a complete oral examination, including the appropriate complementary radiographic and exploration tests, as well as obtaining adequate clinical references
- 22. Have the ability to make an initial diagnostic judgment and establish a reasoned diagnostic strategy, being competent in recognizing situations that require urgent dental care.
- 23. Establish the diagnosis, prognosis and adequate therapeutic planning in all clinical areas of Dentistry, being competent in the diagnosis, prognosis and preparation of the dental treatment plan for patients requiring special care, including medically compromised patients (such as diabetics , hypertensive, immunosuppressed, anticoagulated, among others) and patients with disabilities. - 24. Recognize life-threatening situations and know how to perform basic life support maneuvers.
Clinical skills: Dental therapy.
- 25. Know and apply the basic treatment of the most common oral pathology in patients of all ages. Therapeutic procedures should be based on the concept of minimal invasion and on a global and integrated approach to oral treatment.
- 26. Know how to plan and carry out multidisciplinary, sequential and integrated dental treatments of limited complexity in patients of all ages and conditions and in patients who require special care.
- 27. Plan and propose preventive measures appropriate to each clinical situation.
- 28. Acquire clinical experience under proper supervision.
Public health and health systems.
- 29. Recognize the determinants of oral health in the population, both genetic and lifestyle-dependent, demographic, environmental, social, economic, psychological and cultural.
- 30. Recognize the role of the dentist in prevention and protection actions against oral diseases, as well as in the maintenance and promotion of health, both at an individual and community level.
- 31. Know the National Health System, as well as the basic aspects of health legislation, clinical management and proper use of health resources, understanding the importance of the role of the dentist in the field of Primary Health Care.
Minimum stay requirements
- The permanence of the students in the Degree studies will be a maximum of eight years for full-time students. Part-time students may request an extension of up to two more years from the Rector.
- In Bachelor's degrees lasting more than 240 credits (4 years), the maximum of the previous section will be increased by one more year for every 60 ECTS credits that are added to the 240 ECTS.
- Students must pass a minimum of two subjects in the first year. Students studying part-time must pass at least one subject in their first academic year.
- Students who are studying any official Bachelor's degree at the Rey Juan Carlos University may make a maximum of four registrations to pass each of the subjects of the study plan, without counting previous cancellations of the same.

OSCE
The Objective and Structured Competence Examination (ECOE) will be the tool that will allow the evaluation of the competences acquired by the students during the Degree in Dentistry. This implies that any content taught in the subjects that make up the Degree can be evaluated.
It consists of an itinerary through different stations in which the student has to face different clinical situations common in the daily work of a dentist. She will have to demonstrate her knowledge of the etiology, pathogenesis, and pathology of oral diseases, as well as her competence in making a diagnostic judgment and selecting the best treatment indicated for each specific situation. She must also make clear her ability to implement prevention and health promotion measures in her patients. The student must be able to design a treatment plan contemplating the written prescription of the work requested from the laboratory technician and the medications that patients may require. Her ability to communicate with other Health Sciences professionals or dentists involved in the multidisciplinary treatment of the patient in question will also be evaluated.
External Internships
The Degree in Dentistry does not contemplate the internship program in companies provided for in Royal Decree 1497/1981, of June 19, since within its own curricular itinerary there are subjects whose eminently practical nature requires clinical internships for the acquisition of essential skills in the performance of the dentistry profession (see training itinerary).
The clinical practices will be carried out at the Fundación de la University Clinic of the University, located in the Departmental II building or University Clinic on the Alcorcón Health Sciences Campus.

ERASMUS
The Erasmus program makes it easy for URJC students -both undergraduate and postgraduate- to study one or several semesters at one of the European universities with which the URJC has agreements.
These exchanges traditionally have an economic endowment thanks to the Erasmus Scholarships provided by the EU and the Spanish Ministry of Education.

The Munde program manages mobility with universities from countries not included in the Erasmus Program.

SICK
SICUE is a national mobility program for GRADOS university students that allows them to carry out part of their studies at another Spanish university with guarantees of academic recognition, use and adaptation to their curricular profile.
Student support programs
Orientation to future students. The University offers various orientation programs for future students: we carry out visits to high schools and secondary schools, we organize guided visits to the Campuses, we are present in the Classroom and, at the beginning of each course, we carry out welcome days to guide students new students.
academic tutorials. Each teacher carries out, within their teaching planning, academic tutorials on their subject.
Coordinator of the degree. It works to promote coherence and balance between the subjects and the workloads of the students.
mentoring program. The URJC has this program, peer tutoring, in which the students of the last years act as mentors with the first year students.
Students with disabilities. The Support Office for Persons with Disabilities offers guidance and assistance to students with special needs.
Scholarships . The Rey Juan Carlos University manages the main scholarships and annual grants, both its own and from other official bodies: Ministries, Community of Madrid, International Organizations and other entities. It also publishes and disseminates those scholarships and grants of interest to its students and graduates. Throughout the course, students receive information about them through the different communication channels established.
Job placement program. The Rey Juan Carlos University, through the External Internship Unit and the Graduates Office, organizes conferences, workshops and various actions aimed at supporting and guiding students in their job search, to improve their employability and promote job placement . The Quality Assurance System of the Rey Juan Carlos University establishes that the degree's Quality Assurance Commission will annually analyze the information derived from the degree's indicators and prepare a report that will include improvement plans if the results so indicate.

Renewal of accreditation
The renewal of the accreditation represents the culmination of the implementation process of the official Bachelor's and Master's degrees registered in the Register of Universities, Centers and Degrees (RUCT). The renewal of the accreditation of official bachelor's and master's degrees is organized in three phases: self-assessment report, external visit and final assessment.
In the first phase, the university describes and assesses the status of the degree with respect to the established criteria and guidelines. The result is the Self-Assessment Report (IA) that is presented. The second and third phases are carried out by a group of evaluators external to the evaluated title.”
The Conference of Deans of the Faculties of Dentistry of Spain in collaboration with the Ministry of Universities, has agreed to carry out the test to pass the complementary training requirements for the homologation of the title that enables the exercise of the regulated profession of dentist in Spain, on March 8, 2024 (May 10, 2024 for the practical part).

To the requests, which must be delivered through the electronic headquarters of the University (General instance (Exposes/Requests)), you must attach:
- application form
- Copy of the final resolution of the General Subdirectorate of Degrees of the Ministry of Universities in which the homologation of your foreign degree is conditioned to the passing of certain complementary requirements.
- Photocopy of the DNI / NIE / Residence Card or Passport
Applications that meet the requirements will be accepted by strict order of entry until the number of places offered for the test is completed.
