Professor Sánchez de León visited us as part of a teaching exchange funded by CYTED (Ibero-American Program of Science and Technology for Development) and organized by the Tourism and Gender Network TourGen. Professor Sánchez de León, a specialist in integrating gender perspectives and intersectionality in the field of tourism (training, research, and territorial engagement), led a seminar for students in the Tourism degree and double degree programs, both in-person and blended learning formats. Faculty members from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities also participated, contributing a valuable humanistic perspective to the training in this field. This seminar—organized by Professors María Cristina Fernández Laso, a member of the TourGen Network, and Alicia Orea Giner, a collaborator with the network—provided an in-depth exploration of key concepts such as the historical construction of gender roles, intersectionality, and the development of strategies for inclusive and diverse tourism. “I am extremely grateful for the invitation to teach the seminar, as it has been a very enriching day with the students,” said the visiting teacher.
In addition to teaching activities, the visit helped strengthen academic collaboration between the professors, who already share lines of research in tourism with an intersectional perspective. “It was an excellent opportunity to establish synergies in our research projects and initiate new collaborations between our universities,” explained Professor Sánchez.
From Rey Juan Carlos University, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences, we appreciate the visit of Professor Sánchez de León and hope to continue strengthening this collaboration within the framework of our internationalization strategies.
