Last Thursday, March 26, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the Rey Juan Carlos University held the conference "Around the Letter. Typography and Design Conference 25-26" at the Aranjuez-Pavia Campus, an academic event dedicated to theoretical and practical reflection on the function and communicative possibilities of the letter in the field of graphic design and visual communication.
The day began in the morning with a presentation by Carlos Campos (Cuchi, what a guy!), who shared his work in typographic design and discussed with the students the main milestones of his production, closely linked to the idiosyncrasies of Andalusia and its most distinctive graphic features. Following this, the participants designed a word characteristic of each Andalusian province using the letters from an emblematic tile of that region. The result was a set of lettered sheets with a strong expressive character and great formal richness.
In the afternoon, a typographic collage workshop was held, led by the faculty organizing the event. Students were challenged to create abstract compositions by combining fragments of letters from diverse sources in a balanced way. Using provided templates, the workshop allowed participants to explore the formal dimension of letters, beyond their linguistic content, resulting in a series of black and white prints that highlighted the importance of formal connections and the balance between empty and occupied space in typographic design.

The event took place in room P122, a spacious area that allowed for its division and organization to meet the needs of each activity. Each workshop lasted three and a half hours, and the organizers provided all the necessary materials. The event was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Vice-Rectorate for Campus Community, Culture, and Sports at Rey Juan Carlos University.
