The award ceremony, held recently, was attended by the university community and underscored the FCEE's commitment to academic excellence and gender equality.

Importance of the gender perspective in the economy

Activities like this competition are essential to counteract the historical underrepresentation of women in economics, a discipline where women's contributions have been systematically underestimated. Anna Schwartz, a pioneer in monetary theory; Christina Romer, a leading figure in macroeconomic policy; and Esther Duflo, Nobel laureate for her work in development economics, represent inspiring role models who demonstrate how a diversity of approaches enriches economic analysis and fosters more equitable solutions.

These initiatives not only train students to be critical thinkers and aware of equality issues, but also contribute to the full integration of women in the professional and academic spheres. By promoting female role models, URJC is moving towards a more inclusive economy, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 5: Gender Equality) and university equity policies.
