The past 17, 18 19 y de JunioThe Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences of the Rey Juan Carlos University had the honor of organizing the XVII Spanish Economics Olympiadheld at the Aranjuez Campus. During three intense days, the University welcomed approximately 300 participants, among students, faculty and representatives of 44 Economics and Business faculties from public universities throughout Spain, making Aranjuez the meeting point for young talent, academic excellence and university life.
The Olympiad unfolded smoothly and in an exceptional atmosphere. Beyond the academic competition, participants enjoyed the incomparable setting of the Royal Site and Town of Aranjuez, its rich heritage, its gastronomy, and, above all, the opportunity to share experiences, forge new personal relationships, and strengthen ties between students and teachers from all over Spain.
The exam was held during the morning of 18 June in the Pavía Building on the Aranjuez Campus. The students faced a demanding exam consisting of multiple-choice questions, practical exercises, and a commentary on a current economic text. In this edition, the text addressed the tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and its impact on the oil market, with the aim of assessing the students' ability to analyze the impact of supply shocks on the global economy and apply the knowledge acquired to a current economic context.
The final touch came on 19 June with the awards ceremony, held in the Charles III Theatre of AranjuezThe event brought together participants, faculty, institutional representatives, and sponsors of the Olympiad. During the ceremony, the effort and academic excellence of the award-winning students were recognized, thanks also to the commitment of the sponsoring organizations, which presented the various prizes and awards.
The Faculty of Economics and Business wishes to express its sincere gratitude to all the institutions and people who have made the success of this 17th edition possible.
First of all, to the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and especially to its rector, abraham duarte...for their constant support since the organization's inception. Their presence at both the opening ceremony and the closing and awards ceremony, as well as the words of encouragement and motivation they offered to the students, provided significant support for those who will soon begin their university studies.
Our gratitude also extends to Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sportswhose support for the Economics Olympiad is fundamental to fostering talent and excellence among high school students. We also appreciate the participation of their representatives, Virginia Geijo y Librada María Carrerawhose presence helped to reinforce the institutional character of this edition.
A very special recognition is deserved by Aranjuez City Council and its mayor, Miguel Gómez HerreroFor their involvement and collaboration throughout the entire organizational process. In addition to facilitating logistics by providing spaces and supporting the scheduled cultural and leisure activities, their friendliness, availability, and hospitality left a wonderful impression on all attendees, making them one of the best ambassadors for the municipality.
Finally, we would like to thank the nearly 300 people who participated in this Olympiad. Their enthusiasm, camaraderie, curiosity, and eagerness to learn made this edition much more than an academic competition: an experience of coexistence, exchange, and personal growth that we hope will remain in the memory of all attendees and link them forever with Rey Juan Carlos University and the city of Aranjuez.
From the Faculty of Economics and Business, we are deeply proud of the success of this 17th Spanish Economics Olympiad and grateful for the trust placed in our University to organize a national benchmark event that has demonstrated, once again, the commitment of the URJC to academic excellence, the training of future economists and the strengthening of ties between the university and secondary education.
Finally, we would like to extend our sincerest congratulations to the winning team of this 17th Spanish Economics Olympiad and wish them every success in the International Phase of the Economics Olympiad, which this year will be held in Suzhou (China) Between the days 12 & 20 of JulyWe are convinced that they will represent Spain with the same talent, effort and enthusiasm that they have shown during these days in Aranjuez.
