From March 17th to 21st, the Faculty of Economics and Business at the Rey Juan Carlos University received a visit from Professor Louise Todd of Edinburgh Napier University (United Kingdom) as part of a student mobility program funded by her home institution. Edinburgh Napier University is positioned as one of the leading institutions in the field of event studies, both nationally in the United Kingdom and internationally. Its specialization in event management, tourism, and hospitality is articulated through recognized academic programs and the work of the Tourism Research Centre (TRC), a leading center for applied research on sustainability, experience design, and community engagement in festivals and events.
Professor Todd is an expert in experience design, storytelling, and sustainable event and festival management. She is currently an active member of the Tourism Research Centre (TRC), along with Professor Alicia Orea-Giner of the Department of Business Economics at URJC, who hosted her during her stay. Dr. Todd also holds prominent editorial roles in several academic journals. She is currently an Associate Editor of Event Management Journal and is a member of the Editorial Committee of International Journal of Creative Research Methods.
During her visit, Professor Todd taught several sessions on the Restaurant Management course for the Bachelor's Degree in Protocol, Event Planning, and Corporate Communication, as well as on the dual degree with International Relations. The classes covered topics such as experience design, design theory, and storytelling applied to sustainable event management contexts. "I really enjoyed interacting with the students and sharing creative ideas with them. It was a very enriching experience due to their enthusiasm and level of engagement," said the visiting professor.
In addition to teaching, the stay strengthened the academic collaboration and personal ties between the two professors, who are already jointly developing research projects in sustainable tourism and events. "It was an excellent opportunity to advance our current and future research projects and to consolidate the cooperation between our universities," explained Professor Todd.
From the Faculty of Economics and Business at Rey Juan Carlos University, we appreciate Professor Todd's visit and look forward to continuing to strengthen this collaboration within the framework of our internationalization strategies.
