The Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences of the Rey Juan Carlos University is proud to announce the participation of Professor Vicente Garrido as an advisor to the official delegation of Spain in the II Session of the Preparatory Committee of the 2026 Conference of the Parties, in charge of the review of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which will be held in Geneva from July 22 to August 2, 2024.
Professor Vicente Garrido, who currently holds the position of Vice Dean of Research and International Relations, in addition to being a Full Professor of Public International Law and International Relations, will contribute his vast experience and knowledge in security and defense to the Spanish delegation. Professor Garrido is internationally recognized for his extensive bibliographical production on topics related to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, disarmament and arms control, with more than 200 articles and twenty books in English and Spanish.
Since 2018, he has directed the "Francisco Villamartín" Chair of Defense Studies of the URJC and the Ministry of Defense, and since 2022, he has been Vice President of the Spanish Association of Professors of International Law and International Relations (AEPDIRI). His outstanding career includes more than 300 conferences in around twenty countries and the direction of around 60 monographic courses and seminars on international affairs, especially on security and foreign relations of the European Union.
Professor Garrido has participated in numerous national and international R&D&i programs and projects, and has been a guest professor in various master's degrees, postgraduate degrees and specialization courses, both national and international. Since 2022, he has been a member of the Advisory Board on Education and Outreach (ABEO) of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, based in The Hague, and between 2014 and 2017 he was a member of the Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters of the Secretaries General of the United Nations, as well as the Board of Trustees of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR).
Professor Garrido is also the sole Spanish member of the European Union Consortium on Non-Proliferation since 2011 and collaborates with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation as an expert-advisor on non-proliferation and arms control issues.
