Professors Charro and Benlloch participate in a conference on volunteering at the Congress of Deputies

Last Friday, February 7, the Congress of Deputies hosted a conference organized by the Spanish Volunteering Platform under the title "Volunteering in Society."

Madrid, 12 February 2025 – Last Friday, 7 February, the Congress of Deputies hosted a conference organised by the Spanish Volunteering Platform entitled “Volunteering in Society”. This meeting brought together experts, institutional representatives and third sector entities with the aim of highlighting the importance of volunteering and promoting its inclusion in the political agenda.

Representing the Rey Juan Carlos University, the professors from the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences, Pilar Charro Baena and Pablo Benlloch Sanz, participated. Professor Charro Baena gave a presentation entitled “The influence of volunteering on the design of public policies”, where she addressed the impact of volunteering on the configuration of government strategies and its role in social cohesion. For his part, Professor Benlloch Sanz presented the presentation “For a State Strategy for Volunteering in the 21st Century”, in which he highlighted the need for national planning to strengthen the role of volunteering in Spain.

The day concluded with the participation of the political groups that make up the Social Rights and Consumer Affairs Commission of the Congress of Deputies and with the intervention of Mr. Pablo Bustinduy, Minister of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030.

With this participation, the Rey Juan Carlos University reaffirms its commitment to the analysis and academic contribution to issues of social relevance, promoting research and debate around volunteering and its impact on society.
