On February 10 and 11, an interesting seminar on Azerbaijan's situation on the international scene took place on the Quintana campus. Its main objective was to learn about the frameworks for cooperation and agreement in this country in the international arena, and in particular, in its relations with the European Union and Spain. It was a highly innovative initiative and is the result of a significant previous effort of cooperation in the educational field between the Embassy of Azerbaijan and the Rey Juan Carlos University, within the leadership exercised by the Center for Ibero-American Studies of our University (CEIB) and the projection of Ibero-American issues and the Spanish language on the international scene. And with the participation of important professors from the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences of the Rey Juan Carlos University.

The Seminar featured speeches by various experts in Public International Law and international relations, who addressed the history and context of Azerbaijan, its ties with the European Union, and priority sectors of cooperation with Spain. The event was attended by numerous students from different Madrid universities, as well as from various training disciplines and also experts from several Spanish universities. The event was opened by the Deputy Vice-Rector for International Relations, Ángeles Cano Linares, by the representative of the Embassy of Azerbaijan, Nadir Sarajli, and also by the Vice-Rector for Research and Internationalisation of UNIE, David de Matías, who expressed their satisfaction with the organisation and implementation of activities of this type, within the framework of an agreement between the Embassy of Azerbaijan and the Rey Juan Carlos University.

For the Director of the Congress, Professor Elena Díaz Galán, “this is an unparalleled opportunity to advance from an academic point of view in relations with Azerbaijan and to make known the reality of this country on the international scene.” During the two days of the event, subjects such as the economic and energy situation and the foreign policy of Azerbaijan were discussed in depth, with the participation of Azerbaijani experts from the Air Center, a think tank specialized in international relations. The debate was extremely interesting and the activity was very well received by the students of the Degree in International Relations of our University and of the other participating Universities. Likewise, the Embassy of Azerbaijan showed a special interest in strengthening relations in the educational and cultural fields and thus deepening relations between Azerbaijan and Spain.
