The 7th edition of URJCmun TEEN, the Model United Nations for secondary and high school students at the Rey Juan Carlos University, concluded successfully last Friday, March 870, on the Móstoles campus. With more than XNUMX participants, this edition surpassed its own record, establishing itself as the largest Model United Nations event in Spain and one of the most prominent in Europe.
The event, held from March 5 to 7, allowed students to discuss current international issues in a simulated United Nations setting. In this model, participants represent different countries and address key global issues. In each committee, the objective is to achieve consensus among delegations and draft a working document that, after approval, becomes a resolution on the topic at hand.
This year, URJCmun TEEN featured 16 committees, both in Spanish and English, where relevant topics such as the defense of LGBT+ rights, feminist struggles, the climate crisis, and the protection of human rights were discussed. The organization also incorporated non-academic activities such as a treasure hunt, which added a playful touch to the event, bringing participants closer to the experience of diplomacy in a fun way.
Although the event is focused on teenagers, the role of URJC students is fundamental. "We are an organization comprised of university students who organized the event comprehensively over 10 months of intense work," explains Andrea Barchino Caro, Secretary General of URJCmun TEEN and an International Relations student at our university.
This year, high demand forced the organization to expand the number of committees, adding four more to accommodate all interested parties. In the words of Andrea Barchino, "the growing participation demonstrates young people's interest and commitment to global issues and their willingness to get involved in finding solutions."
Professor Helena Roncero, from the Compañía de María La Enseñanza Institute in Valladolid, highlighted the event's positive impact on students: "URJCmun TEEN connects them with reality and the format in which global issues are addressed. It's an experience that significantly contributes to young people's academic and personal development."
URJCmun was founded in 2013 with the aim of fostering interest in the United Nations, international relations, and diplomacy within the university community. After several years of growth and success, it established itself as the largest Model United Nations in Spain and Europe. In 2020, URJCmun TEEN emerged with the mission of bringing this type of experience to younger generations, offering a platform that allows students to enrich their learning and develop skills that will mark a turning point in their academic careers.
With this resounding success, URJCmun TEEN continues to demonstrate its ability to inspire young people and provide them with an experience that goes beyond the classroom, opening the doors to a future full of opportunities in the fields of diplomacy, international relations, and global problem-solving.
