The Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the Rey Juan Carlos University successfully inaugurates AI-LEARN, the first immersive AI and Legaltech laboratory in Spain.

The immersive Artificial Intelligence and Legaltech lab, AI-LEARN, the only one of its kind in Spain, was successfully inaugurated today at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences (FCJP) of the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC). The event was attended by a large number of students, professors, and leading professionals from the legal and technology sectors.

Madrid, May 14, 2025. – The immersive Artificial Intelligence and Legaltech lab, AI-LEARN, the only one of its kind in Spain, was successfully inaugurated today at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences (FCJP) of the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC). The event was attended by a large number of students, professors, and leading professionals from the legal and technology sectors.

The day began with a welcome from Dean María Enciso Alonso-Muñumer, who emphasized that "AI-LEARN marks a milestone in legal education, combining innovative training and cutting-edge technology to prepare lawyers for the challenges of the future." She was joined by Antonio Serrano Acitores, Coordinator of Digitalization, Innovation, and Communication, who highlighted the importance of adapting the legal field to new technologies. The opening ceremony featured a distinguished participation by Pablo de Carvajal González, Secretary General and of the Board of Directors at Telefónica, who underscored the company's commitment to technological and educational innovation. Likewise, the Rector of the URJC, Abraham Duarte, an expert in Artificial Intelligence, highlighted the strategic relevance of the project in his speech, stating that "AI applied to law represents an exceptional opportunity to transform legal education, offering new tools for research and the training of highly qualified professionals for the challenges of the future."

AI-LEARN is a pioneering project created by Dean María Enciso, Vice-Dean of Research and International Relations, Vicente Garrido Rebolledo, and Digitalization Coordinator, Antonio Serrano Acitores. Its name combines "AI" (Artificial Intelligence) and "LEARN" (learning), reflecting the project's fundamental pillars: Legaltech, Education, Adaptability, Resilience, and Networking. The lab incorporates advanced technologies such as Lefebvre's generative artificial intelligence "GenIA-L", Speechware's ultra-precise DigaLaw X voice recognition, Maite.ai as a legal alter ego, Justicio and Little John as legal assistants, the Chiara virtual reality simulator, Epsilon Media's robotic immersive room, and Logixs' technological integration capabilities.

Two in-depth roundtable discussions took place during the day. The first panel, "Ethical and Legal Challenges of Artificial Intelligence I," featured Moisés Barrio Andrés, Attorney at the Council of State, who offered an overview of current AI regulations; Francisco Pérez Bes, Deputy President of the Spanish Data Protection Agency, who analyzed the challenges in data protection; Sara Molina Pérez-Tomé, Head of Legaltech, Innovation, and Transformation at Pérez Llorca, spoke about the keys to legaltech innovation; and Ana Felícitas Muñoz Pérez, Professor of Commercial Law at the URJC, who addressed the issue of surveillance capitalism arising from the use of AI.

In the second panel, entitled "Ethical and Legal Challenges of Artificial Intelligence II," Ofelia Tejerina, an expert in Digital Law, addressed digital rights in the face of AI; Rodolfo Tesone Mendizábal, an expert lawyer in AI and president emeritus of ENATIC, presented an analysis of artificial intelligence and regulatory geopolitics; Carmen Muñoz García, Professor of Civil Law at the UCM, delved into the ethics applied to artificial intelligence; and Mabel Klimt, Managing Partner at ELZABURU, offered a vision of the future of the lawyer in the face of technological innovations.

The day closed with a roundtable of practical demonstrations, which allowed attendees to learn firsthand about the technologies integrated into AI-LEARN. Javier Ballesteros (Epsilon Media) presented the robotic immersive room; Francisco Moreno (Logixs) showcased the practical applications of generative AI in the legal field; Juan Pujol (Lefebvre) presented "GenIA-L"; Daniel Vecino (Little John) introduced "Justicio"; Alejandro Castellano (Maite.ai) exhibited an advanced legal assistant; Jesús María Boccio (DigaLaw X) presented advanced voice recognition technologies for the legal field; and Soraya del Portillo (Chiara) spoke about the use of virtual reality to improve communication skills.

The conference, which concluded with the theme "Where Artificial Intelligence Revolutionizes Law," highlighted the strategic importance of the AI-LEARN laboratory as a benchmark in the integration of disruptive technologies into legal education and practice, thus positioning the Rey Juan Carlos University at the forefront of Legaltech and legal education in the 21st century.
