Travel insurance
Students with nationality of countries belonging to the European Union, the European Economic Area (Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) and Switzerland are advised to have the European sanitary card.
Consult all the information and services included with your national health system.
This card allows you to access public health during your stay, but you must bear in mind that it may not cover all medical expenses, since there are differences between the health systems of the different countries. Special care should be taken if you are receiving medical treatment.
Upon your arrival in Madrid, we recommend that you visit the health center closest, with the European Health Card and your passport or national identity document to inform you of the coverage and assistance.
This is why it is required to hire a private insurance that includes medical assistance and repatriation, among other guarantees.
When you do, make sure you understand the terms, such as what services are covered and how to get them.
A recommended option is the OnCampus Study insurance, with very extensive coverage and a very advantageous rate. Through this link you can review the conditions and contract it https://oncampus.es/seguros/oncampus-estudia/
EUROPEAN HEALTH CARD (free for EU citizens):
To obtain it, contact your national health system. Obtain the EHIC by contacting your national health insurance.

With the European Health Card you will have access to:
- Neighborhood health centers: you must go to the health center, with your passport or identification document and the acceptance letter in Spanish and request to be registered for a temporary stay. Neighborhood Health Centers (primary care) have a teletranslation service in more than 50 languages. Go to the reception of the health center to find out more.
- Public hospitals: for emergencies or specialist doctors (upon referral from your GP ***general*** of the health center)
Additionally, It is also mandatory that they hire a private medical insurance that covers contingencies not covered by the EHIC such as repatriation, continued medical treatment, and non-urgent treatments that may occur during the mobility period.
PRIVATE MEDICAL INSURANCE:
Mandatory to complete coverage for EU citizens, including repatriation and long-term treatment.
Mandatory to obtain a visa for all students from countries outside the EU.
