La international mention is one of the mentions that the student can include in his title. According to the Regulations Governing Doctoral Studies, the student who does his doctorate at the Rey Juan Carlos University can include in his doctoral degree and under certain conditions, the following mentions:
1. International Doctorate
2. Industrial Doctorate (link)
3. Cum laude: The thesis evaluation committee may grant the mention of cum laude if the overall grade is outstanding and the positive secret vote is unanimously issued in this regard.
According to the International Mention in the doctoral degree:
The title of doctor may include the mention "International Doctorate" on its front, provided that the following circumstances concur:
a) That, during the period of training necessary to obtain the doctorate degree, the doctoral student has spent a minimum stay of three months outside of Spain in a prestigious higher education institution or research center.
b) That said stay and the activities to be carried out during it have been endorsed by the director and authorized by the Academic Commission of the Doctoral Program. This information will be included in the doctoral student activities document (form).
c) That the person responsible for the stay at the destination center proves the completion of the stay, indicating specific dates. In this sense, it is possible to carry out divided stays as long as the Academic Committee authorizes them. In the case of divided stays, all stays must be carried out in the same destination center and under the same person in charge.
d) If the country in which the stay is carried out is not Spanish-speaking: That part of the doctoral theses, at least the summary and conclusions, have been written in one of the usual languages for scientific communication in their field of knowledge, different from any of the official languages in Spain.
e) If the country in which the stay is carried out is not Spanish-speaking: That the thesis be presented in one of the usual languages for scientific communication in its field of knowledge, different from any of the official languages in Spain.
f) That at least two expert doctors belonging to a non-Spanish higher education institution or research institute issue a favorable report on the doctoral thesis (form).
g) That at least one expert belonging to a non-Spanish higher education institution or research center participate in the thesis evaluation board, with a doctorate degree, other than the person responsible for the aforementioned stay and the doctoral experts who have issued a favorable report.
The Management Committee of the EID will be the one who will authorize the reading of the thesis with international mention, having seen the favorable report of the Academic Committee based on the documentation provided by the doctoral student to said committee.
The regulations that regulate the International Mention are collected in Article 30 of the Regulatory Regulations for Doctoral Studies at URJC (approved by the Governing Council on 7/06/2019).
