"It is practically the first Spanish study on prostitution of Asian origin in Spain, and I have taken the Community of Madrid as an example." "It is an innovative work with great contributions in terms of gender violence, specifically, trafficking and sexual exploitation or in a situation of prostitution" explains the winner.

The thesis called 'Chinese prostitution in the Community of Madrid. Analysis from a gender perspective' and carried out by Teresa Madueño, has managed to gain a place among the 'Awards from the Government Delegation against Gender Violence to doctoral theses on violence against women'.

"In this research I recreate the circuit that Chinese women follow from the time they leave their country until they arrive in Spain," explains Madueño. “All this is done through a multidisciplinary critical analysis taking into account the socioeconomic and globalizing framework in which women find themselves,” she points out.

To be able to participate in these awards, the doctoral theses must have been defended at any Spanish university, and, in addition, have obtained the qualification of outstanding cum laude. "If something characterizes this research, it is because it brings visibility and light on a subject that until now has been studied very little or almost nothing in Spain: the prostitution of Asian women in our country"

The jury in charge of evaluating the thesis has highlighted Madueño's work very positively when investigating a topic that is so commonplace and that has been studied very little. They have valued her originality, as well as the difficulty of the field work carried out and the value of having managed to gain the trust of the women protagonists of the thesis. “All this has made it possible to give visibility to some women who remain hidden from our society, and to increase knowledge about Chinese women in prostitution, a group that is especially hidden due to their characteristics and the language barrier, and on which there are almost no studies. nor prior information” indicate the vowels.

“It is an academic work where I detail the migratory process of a group of women who are forced into the exercise of prostitution. In addition, it is very useful beyond the academic field, such as the police, social and even judicial spheres”. “Finishing the thesis with that qualification for me was already a source of pride. Receiving some kind of recognition also gives me great satisfaction. But what interests me the most is to make visible the situation in which these women live and to humanize them”, explains Madueño.
