For Enrique San Miguel, professor of History of Law and Institutions, receiving the announcement of his honorary doctorate from the Puerto Rican town of Ponce meant “a return to my first day at the faculty, when I was 17 years old.”
This Thursday, December 6, this Historian of Law will become part of the Faculty of the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico. For the URJC professor, receiving the Honoris Causa, “exceeds the best dreams one could have. I am a professor who dedicates himself to reading, writing and teaching and this is a motivation to continue doing so.”
Enrique San Miguel has always been linked to public education and the Public University, "I am a Historian, I believe that History is the science of change and transformation. For me it is also the science of the future. What we study in History shows what our ancestors wanted our world to be.
This professor at the URJC is passionate about literature and cinema and has researched and published on these arts and their relationship with the Law on numerous occasions. His book 'Estrellas Errantes. Migraciones, Estado y Derecho en la Literatura y el Cine' (Ed. Dykinson) and several articles in scientific journals on the tasks of the Historian of Law or on figures from the History of Spain such as José María Semprún Gurrea, who was a minister of the Republican exile, stand out.
“When they talk about my contribution, I think they think it has been interesting in terms of relating it to literature, cinema and the history of ideas,” he says.
Enrique San Miguel has also had a close relationship with the Pontifical University of Puerto Rico. He has participated in several conferences and has taught classes at the School of Law, demonstrating a bond that has lasted for several years and that goes beyond individuals and has to do with work teams and universities.
This link is confirmed by the recognition of the excellence of a member of the URJC university community, which is effective today with his appointment as Doctor Honoris Causa of the Puerto Rican university.
