The 'Zero Emissions Campus' project of the Rey Juan Carlos University wins the III Energy Efficiency Awards

The URJC project "Zero Emissions Campus" has won the first prize for the 'Best Energy Management' category, included in the third edition of the Energy Efficiency Awards granted by the association of companies in the sector (A3e).

The jury considered that the Rey Juan Carlos University has distinguished itself significantly through the project "Zero Emissions Campus: Energy efficiency as a pillar of sustainability", presented by Professor Javier Dufour. The Energy Management System implemented at the University has led to savings of more than €400.000 since 2013 and has meant obtaining the ISO 50.001 Certification.

The jury has assessed, among other factors, the degree of innovation of the project, the savings achieved, the volume and profitability of the investment made. In addition, it has awarded a second prize to two other projects: “Remote management in public buildings”, carried out by the Consell Comarcal d'Osona; and “Substitution of superheated water (HW) to steam – nitrogen (SG) cure in vulcanization presses”, presented by Bridgestone Hispania (Burgos plant).

The award for Best Energy Efficiency Project - End of Degree, endowed with 1.000 euros and a scholarship for the "Energy Auditor in Building Course" organized by A3e, has gone to Carolina Caballero (Polytechnic University of Valencia and Jaume I University) and his project “Protocol for the Evaluation and Rehabilitation of Envelopes”.

Among other factors, the degree of innovation of the project, the savings achieved and the expected profitability of the investment have been assessed. The project “Measurement and Verification of Energy Savings in Tertiary Buildings: Faculty of Economics and Business (UDC)” was also awarded a second prize, presented by Henar Lorenzo Ladra – University of A Coruña.

Lastly, the prize for the Best Divulgative Action on Energy Efficiency went to "Bulding Services Blog: publishing the experience and the future" (www.buildingservicesblog.com) presented by Javier Bermejo Busto, from the School of Architecture of the University of Navarre. The blog, published in English, is carried out collaboratively and has already reproduced more than 190 analysis articles on energy efficiency products and techniques.

In this same category, the projects "MOOC Course: Energy Efficiency in Lighting Installations", carried out by the Foundation for Energy Efficiency of the Valencian Community (F2e); and "Energy Efficiency Label in Windows", presented by ASEFAVE (Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Light Facades and Windows).

In its third edition, the Awards have had the collaboration of the IDAE and the sponsorship of Gas Natural Fenosa and Systemair. The awards ceremony put the finishing touch to the I National Forum on Energy Efficiency (FOROGEn)
