La Fair 'Madrid is Science' It will be held between March 2 and 5 in pavilion 14 of the IFEMA Madrid fairgrounds, within the framework of Education Week. This event, totally free, "is conceived as a comprehensive display of the R&D&i capacities of the Community of Madrid for the construction of a sustainable future, showing citizens, from a playful and participatory point of view, the response that Science, Technology and Innovation can give to the challenges of the planet”, point out from the Foundation for knowledge madri+d, coordinator of the event.

The Rey Juan Carlos University participates one more year in this meeting space between the scientific community and citizens with the aim of sharing knowledge and scientific and technological advances. The stand of the URJC will be open to the public on March 2 from 10:00 to 20:00 and will have activities varied theme. “In this Fair we want to record to the entire society of Science, with capital letters, that it is done in our university. It is a magnificent showcase for the work that our scientists carry out on a daily basis”, highlights Carmen García Galera, academic director of the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+I).

Among the activities, visitors will be able to learn with the demonstrations carried out with 3D printers to show the potential of this technology; robot races guided by LED lights or playful challenges through a “Data Science” board game.

In addition, several interactive workshops will be offered on how to create a self-sustaining garden, how to develop and control a robotic arm with low-cost tools, or how to acquire knowledge about cybersecurity through play Capture The Flag.

The offer of activities will be completed with other challenges from the field of advertising, to test the attendees on their knowledge in advertising communication. Visitors will also be able to learn about the interesting connections between the brain and the intestine, visit archaeological excavations through an exhibition and observe real samples of volcanic remains from the La Palma eruption.

The URJC's participation in the 'Madrid es Ciencia' Fair is coordinated by the Office of the Vice President for Research, through the UCC+I, and has the collaboration of the six schools and faculties, as well as the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT)-Ministry of Science and Innovation.

The Fair returns after two years

After the forced stoppage as a result of the health crisis and the State of Alarm decreed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced the cancellation of the 2020 edition just over a month after its celebration, and after the success of participation of the 2019 edition, the Community of Madrid, through the madri+d Foundation for Knowledge, recovers the 'Madrid es Ciencia' Fair.

This event will offer a space for learning and exploring the scientific, technological and innovative ecosystem of the region, and a place where the different agents of the knowledge generation and application system (professors, researchers and entrepreneurs), as well as the general public, will be able to share knowledge and experiences.

The entire value chain of talent in the Community of Madrid -from educational centers to research centers and innovative companies, passing through Madrid universities and institutions- will be represented at the Fair with the aim of communicating science and innovation, stimulating interest and curiosity of young people in science and showing how research influences economic development and the well-being of society.
