Presentation

The implementation of the Doctorate Program in Economics and Business Sciences is especially important in the economic sector both for the country as a whole and for the Community of Madrid, where the Rey Juan Carlos University is located, so that its results can be join the objectives set in the different areas of public policies.

The program is connected to the Spanish R&D&I Strategy in Artificial Intelligence within the objective of Digital Spain 2026 (Axis 4. Data Economy and Artificial Intelligence), which offers mechanisms to generate innovation in fields such as the fight against misinformation or its use in computational research techniques.

Objectives

This program will allow:

  • Offer quality doctoral training, endorsed by researchers and groups with recognized experience.
  • Consolidate the excellent doctoral training that has been provided and promote doctoral training in the proposed areas in which the URJC already has experienced researchers.
  • Train new researchers.
  • Specialize postgraduates who are interested in their adequate professional, scientific and technical development.
  • Promote the training of new teachers in related disciplines.
  • Facilitate the training of thesis directors.
  • Promote the creation of research groups and networks, national and international, and interdisciplinarity and that focus their research on the challenges of society identified in the EU Research and Innovation Framework Program, the State Plan for Scientific Research and Technical and Innovation Plan and the current Regional Plan for scientific research and technological innovation related to the scope of the doctoral program.

In short, this new Doctorate program at the Rey Juan Carlos University has as its immediate objective the training of doctors equipped with a critical scientific spirit, capacity for research and teamwork, through teaching organized in two areas: one general ( research techniques and methods, tools and resources for the same) and another of specialization of the different lines and consolidated research topics that are developed in it.

  • Ability to promote Open Science and Citizen Science, in accordance with article 12 of Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, as a way to contribute to the consideration of scientific knowledge as a common good, through the evaluation of transversal activities carried out carried out by the doctoral student related to different dimensions of Open Science and Citizen Science, as well as the training acquired in both disciplines in micro-credential or similar format.   • Acquire a degree of in-depth knowledge about the different research designs, as well as the research stages, the formulation of hypotheses and the use of primary or secondary sources to investigate in the field of knowledge of Economics and Business.
  • Demonstrate your ability to design a research project in any of the areas of Economics or Business where you can apply your contributions, knowledge and work methodology.
  • Acquire the necessary knowledge in the quantitative and/or qualitative methodological paradigm for the correct choice and application of the same to the research problem posed in the field of Economics and Business (selection of population under study, parameters, items and/or variables to analyze, case method, experimentation, etc.)
  • Develop the ability to handle the analysis techniques and tools of previous literature, as well as the quantitative and/or qualitative analysis procedures and tools applicable in the field of Economics and Business to analyze the results of the research and/or or respond to the proposed research hypotheses

Program Admission Criteria

1 Profile

The Doctoral Programme in Economics and Business is aimed at students with prior knowledge related to the field of Economics and Business, based on quantitative training and a strong motivation and vocation towards scientific research in these fields. Specifically, the following qualifications are considered preferential for entry:

  • Graduate in Business Administration and Management, Graduate in Finance and Accounting, Degree in Economics, Degrees in Marketing and related fields in the field of economics and business, and who have continued their studies in a University Master's Degree also related to the areas of Economics and Business.
  • Graduate in Economics and Business Administration, Graduate in Business Administration and Management and related fields in the field of economics and business.

2 Profile

Likewise, degrees related to the area of ​​economics and business are considered, which are understood as those that, belonging to the social sciences, have a significant weight in economics, accounting, finance, organization, marketing, human resources and business administration, and statistical and mathematical methods.

More specifically, the doctoral candidate's training will need to be in line with the content of the research lines chosen from among the different lines offered within the programme.

The acceptance or denial of admission will be carried out by the Academic Commission, taking into account, in addition to the general and specific requirements of the Program, the following criteria:

The curricular profile of previous studies, prioritizing according to the degree of affinity to the different lines that are included in the program.

40% The suitability of the master's degree to the lines of research will be fundamentally valued, as well as previous training oriented towards research.

The academic record

30% The academic record of postgraduate and undergraduate studies will be assessed.

Relevant and accredited research and professional experience within the lines of research included in the doctoral program.

20%

Research and professional experience that is directly linked to the lines of the program, that is relevant due to its trajectory or impact, and is sufficiently accredited in a documentary manner, is valued.

Any other documented activity, merit or recognition contributed by the student and that is relevant based on the program's entry profile.

10%

Accredited language level, attendance at seminars, conferences, conferences, summer courses, mobility (Erasmus and similar), etc.

A minimum score of 5 out of 10 will be required to be admitted.

For this doctoral program, there is no type of special entrance test that the applicant must take. However, the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program reserves the exceptional possibility of requiring a personal interview with a student to clarify or comment on any of the previous assessment and selection criteria; especially, those relating to the minimum level of linguistic fluency to read and communicate in Spanish and/or English (minimum level B2).

The number of new admission places will be 45 students, reserving 5% of the places for students with disabilities.

Renewal of accreditation

Renewal of the accreditation represents the culmination of the implementation process of the official qualifications registered in the Register of Universities, Centers and Qualifications (RUCT). The renewal of the accreditation of official degrees is organized in three phases: self-assessment report, external visit and final assessment. In the first phase, the university describes and assesses the status of the degree with respect to the established criteria and guidelines. The result is the Self-Assessment Report (IA) that is presented. The second and third phases are carried out by a group of evaluators external to the evaluated title.
