The objective of this research, carried out by the group cyberimaginary, is to analyze how generative artificial intelligence tools are capable of enhancing designs and producing OER (Open Educational Resources). The goal is to consider the use of these techniques to create audiovisual and multimedia content, and subsequently apply them in massive open online courses, known as MOOCs.
The results have been entirely positive. Researchers have shown that the use of these tools is streamlining creative processes, such as the creation of multimedia and audiovisual content that is being applied to the educational field. The research group has also determined an increase in the efficiency and technical quality of productions, as well as the creation of resources adapted to MOOCs.
“The use of these tools is completely viable as an educational resource,” underlines Alejandro Carbonell, researcher of the Ciberimaginario group and co-author of the study. “Impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence on efficiency, quality and innovation in the production of Open Educational Resources for MOOCS”, published in the scientific journal Communication and Society. “The integration of AI into creative processes is currently growing exponentially,” explains the researcher.
The introduction of these tools in different professional fields is what has led this group to the desire to integrate these techniques in a specific field. To carry out the study, the OER produced in two European projects within the Erasmus+ programme have been evaluated and compared. On the one hand, the CRESCEnt project, which does not use artificial intelligence tools, while the DOMINOES project does use these techniques in the production of audiovisual content. To carry out the comparative study, it was necessary to collect data using an online form, which analyses each audiovisual product developed individually. After this, a descriptive analysis was carried out using percentages and tables, which allowed the researchers to obtain results.
Project background
The professors at the Rey Juan Carlos University are the main protagonists of this work. Their research group is called 'Ciberimaginario' and is made up of Alejandro Carbonell-Alcocer, Alberto Sánchez-Acedo, Nerea Benitez-Aranda and Manuel Gertrudix.
The study is part of the project DOMINOES (Digital cOMpetences INformatiOn EcoSystem - Erasmus+; and the Project CRESCENT (“Mind the gap in media CoveRagE and Strategic communication in CasE of security threats).
