One more year, the arrival of the month of July also means the beginning of the World University Summer Games of the International University Sports Federation (FISU)This year's competition will be hosted by the Rhine-Ruhr region of Germany: around 8.500 students from more than 150 countries will compete for medals in up to 18 different sports. Among the participants will be Carla García, a medical student at the URJC (University of Valencia), who will fight for gold in the 400-meter hurdles in the athletics section, from July 21 to 27 at the Lohrheide Stadium in Bochum.

Despite her extensive experience in competitive sports, in which she has competed internationally on numerous occasions, both at the lower and senior levels, participating in these Games is, for the student, "a great motivation," since, as she states, "I am especially excited that the tournament is a university tournament, since, in addition to the academic and professional growth it has provided me, I feel that, with this opportunity, the University is also offering me the opportunity to compete internationally in my other great passion, which is athletics."

The support of the URJC, key

Carla García is currently about to begin her final year of her medical degree. Given her status as a high-level athlete, combining professional athletics with her studies has not been an easy task. In this regard, the Madrid student wanted to highlight the role of the Rey Juan Carlos University: "I am fortunate that the URJC has always helped me a lot when I have had incompatibilities between studies and sports," adding that "I am very grateful, because I am aware that this is not something that happens at all universities."

As for her future plans, this future doctor is leaning toward continuing her competitive career: "When I finish university, my idea is to focus on athletics and make the most of my career in this field." However, after completing that phase, it will be time to "put all my efforts into passing the MIR (Mediterranean Internship) and obtaining a residency position as a doctor," she concluded.
