Good news for Sports Sciences at URJC. According to the ARWU-SportSciences ranking, prepared by 'Shanghai Rankings', the University is among the 150 best in the world in 2024. This confirms a substantial improvement in all indicators, since, in the previous edition, it was ranked in the 151-200 range.
This ranking places Rey Juan Carlos University in first place regionally, tied with the UAM, both ahead of the UPM. These three Madrid universities are the only ones included in this ranking.
Among all Spanish universities, URJC is ranked among the top 10 in Sports Sciences. In the previous edition, the University was ranked between 10th and 13th at the national level.
It is worth noting that this discipline has been present at the Rey Juan Carlos University for 7 years. Therefore, the URJC is the highest ranked Spanish university with a degree that is less than 10 years old on its campuses.
According to Fernando Del Villar, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies, these good results are due to two key factors: “on the one hand, the creation of the Sports Science Research Centre, which supports all the research carried out in relation to this discipline, and on the other hand, the fact that we are a centre that attracts talent due to a policy of creating staff with a vocation for excellence. Thanks to this, we have managed to be at the top in such a short time; other universities in the region have had such a degree for much longer. We are much younger and we have achieved this much sooner.”
In addition, the Rey Juan Carlos University is the first in the CIT (Article Citations) indicator in the Community of Madrid and the 5th at national level if we only count public universities, the 6th if we take into account private universities.
The commitment of the Rey Juan Carlos University to continue growing and improving in this discipline is clear, as evidenced by the launch of a new building on the Fuenlabrada campus from 2025. This new facility will have new laboratories to measure and evaluate physical and sporting performance and, thus, continue on the path of excellence and achieve good international results.
Sports Sciences is thus placed alongside other disciplines ranked among the best in the world, such as Hotel and Tourism Management, also among the top 150.
