The first interdisciplinary conference “Perinatal Mental Health and Childrearing: Paths to Integral Wellbeing” will take place at URJC on November 3rd, combining an opening presentation and three thematic round tables, moderated by university professors.

Ginés Miñano
The purpose of this event is to foster reflection on perinatal mental health and parenting as a collective issue. It seeks to promote an integrated, evidence-based perspective that connects academic research with the everyday well-being of families and society as a whole.

Aimed at the entire community

These sessions are intended for all students, since, as Patricia Catalá, professor at URJC and organizer of the event, states, “in one way or another, all people are agents in the processes of motherhood and parenting: some will be future health or education professionals, others mothers or fathers, and others will accompany from family, social or community roles.”

Training and awareness-raising experience

The structure of the congress will be dynamic, with an introductory presentation and three round tables that will feature the participation of national and international experts.
Participants are invited to view mental health from a broader and more shared perspective. Catalá states that this will be possible “thanks to the speakers, who will address topics such as brain changes during motherhood, perinatal grief, maternal self-care, paternal involvement, and the role of family and social networks. Attendees will be able to learn from a scientific, clinical, and social perspective, recognizing the importance of emotional support, work-life balance, and guidance in the early years of life.”

Learning with real impact

This meeting "aims to show students that the university can be a space where knowledge, sensitivity and commitment to life come together," concludes Professor Catalá.
The meeting will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025 in the Auditorium of the Management Building on the Alcorcón campus (URJC) and attendance at the conference is recognized with 0.225 ECTS credits.
