November 20th marks the 50th anniversary of Franco's death. To commemorate this event, history students at Rey Juan Carlos University are organizing a conference. 'Franco 50 years later: War, dictatorship, transition and democracy'.
In it, and with the help of expert teachers from the Rey Juan Carlos University and other universities such as the UCM or the UCJC, they analyze aspects that are sometimes as unknown as the repression against women during the first Franco regime, the role of the Church or the political projects for the post-Franco era, among other subjects.
“The event has a multidisciplinary approach and we wanted to make it open to people from different degrees, not just history students,” explains Daniel Petrón, Deputy Delegate of History and student of the Double Degree in Economics and History.
Petrón hopes that people will leave “with a different vision, especially regarding the Transition period, and see and understand the rapid changes that occurred during those years.”
The conference was organized by the students, who wished to acknowledge the help of Javier Rodríguez-Abengózar, Professor of Contemporary History and author of one of the presentations. The event was also funded by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the Department of Historical, Social, and Language Studies of the Faculty of Education, Sport, and Interdisciplinary Studies.
