The opening ceremony took place at 10:30 today, when the Rector of the URJC, Abraham Duarte, inaugurated the event with a few words of thanks to the Director General of URJCmun, Raquel Arija, the Secretary General of URJCmun, Gonzalo Galván, and the Director General of United Nations, International Organizations and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lucía García Rico, all of them at the presidential table next to the Rector.

Next, Raquel Arija spoke, highlighting that “this year we have 20 committees in both English and Spanish, and as always, they remain firmly committed to their core principles: the feminist struggle, support for the LGBTQ+ community, action against climate change, and the defense of human rights.” Following this, a video message from Héctor Gómez, Spain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, was shown. In it, speaking in English, he encouraged all participants to enjoy and learn from these sessions.

At approximately 10:55 a.m., García Rico took to the podium, stating that "this United Nations model is a benchmark within the Spanish university landscape" and addressed the participants and organizers, affirming that "you will remember this experience throughout your academic life, and I hope far beyond."

Following the opening, the Rector gave the floor to Gonzalo Galván, who encouraged all the students participating in this great event to "dialogue, negotiate, and persuade, always with respect, but daring to make people uncomfortable. We are the generation that will shape the diplomacy of the future."

At the end of their speech, Gonzalo Galván and Raquel Arija performed the traditional gavel strike that officially began a series of events in which students will not only simulate diplomatic processes, but will also put into practice the values and mechanisms of international diplomacy.
