With the aim of conducting a multidimensional analysis of the impact of Donald Trump's foreign policy on the contemporary international stage, room 062 of the departmental building on the Madrid campus will host the conference 'The United States of Donald Trump,' organized by Juan Andrés García Martín, professor in the Department of Historical and Social Studies, Spanish Language, Literature, Moral Philosophy, and Specific Didactics at Rey Juan Carlos University. According to its director, the purpose of the symposium is to "continue what we had done previously, since in 2018 we organized a conference on Trump's role in the White House and, two years later, we held another seminar on the consequences of the election that the current US president lost."

Through various lectures, the program will examine how the US president's policies pose a challenge to the European Union. It will also analyze his international relations and the most recent events in which the US has been involved, while questioning whether his foreign policy represents a true break or a continuation of traditional US diplomacy. Furthermore, it will address the potential domestic implications of a political scenario dubbed 'Trump 2.0,' with particular attention to the quality of US democracy and the formulation of a renewed hemispheric strategy for the Americas. In this regard, "the aim is for students to develop a well-informed perspective that goes beyond what appears in the news," García Martín clarified.

Following the opening of the symposium, scheduled for 16:00 p.m., the first presentation will be given by Ricardo Manuel Martín, from the University of Valladolidwho will speak about the European Union's position in the face of the challenge posed by American foreign policy. Following this, Sara Núñez de Prado, a professor at Rey Juan Carlos University, will lead a session entitled 'Greenland and the Arctic: A New Scenario for Donald Trump's Foreign Policy'. Next, Francisco Jiménez, from the University of ExtremaduraIt will reveal whether the US president is truly a game-changer in foreign policy.

After the break, the organizer, Juan Andrés García Martín, and Javier Rodríguez Abengózar, both professors in the Department of Contemporary History at URJC, will speak on 'Trump 2.0: The Erosion of Democracy in the United States' and 'Trump and the Donroe Doctrine: A New Strategy for the Americas?', respectively. The congress will conclude with a brief final discussion.

Participants, who will receive 0.2 ECTS credits for their participation, must register by the day of the event. here.
