The participating centers include the University of Alcalá, the Complutense University of Madrid, the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Carlos III University of Madrid, and the Rey Juan Carlos University.
The day will begin at 9:00 with the opening ceremony and reception of students and professors. At 11:00, participants will begin a two-and-a-half-hour exam, identical at all universities.
In addition to the exam, the event serves as a meeting point between the university and the participating high schools. María Guadalupe Rico, PhD in Economics and Business Administration and a member of the organizing committee, explains that “it’s a way to introduce the university to second-year high school students; it acts as a showcase, an open house focused on economics and business.”
This year, around 1.300 students from over 140 secondary schools and colleges in the Community of Madrid are participating. The top 15 will advance to the national phase, which this year will be held in Aranjuez, organized by the URJC (King Juan Carlos University).
The prizes for the local phase, to be awarded on May 20, include technological equipment and training courses. The best high school team and the teachers who coached them will also receive awards.
In addition to the prizes, the experience provides valuable preparation for the students who attend: “The exam format is much more intense and difficult than the PAU, but it motivates them to study and takes away the stage fright of taking exams on a university campus,” says María Guadalupe Rico.
