The URJC has officially implemented its Bloomberg Lab, becoming the first public university in Madrid to have this internationally recognized tool for financial and economic analysis.

The opening ceremony was attended by Miguel Cuerdo, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Carlo Renzini, representative of Bloomberg, and Abraham Duarte, Rector of URJC, who highlighted the relevance of the project for the academic and research excellence of the university.

The Bloomberg Lab is a room in the Vicálvaro Library where students and teachers can use Bloomberg terminals, a professional program that offers real-time financial data and news, just like in large banks and companies.

The new space features four desktop and eight laptop computers, which can be reserved in two-hour blocks through the URJC's booking system. Users can use these computers to complete four official Bloomberg courses, for which the company issues a certificate. This service will be open to all URJC students, especially those in undergraduate and graduate programs in Economics and Business, although its use may be extended to other degree programs with economic components.

According to Ana Moreno, Vice Dean of Postgraduate Studies, Continuing Education, and the Library at the Faculty of Economics and Business, having access to Bloomberg represents “an extraordinary opportunity for both research and teaching. We are the only public university in Madrid with this professional data source. It is very important for research, as it provides direct access to original macroeconomic and microeconomic data sources with global reach. Students will be able to become Bloomberg experts, which is a significant advantage for their CVs and professional careers.”

Boost to Research

The Vice Dean emphasized that “one of the main challenges for those conducting research in the economic field is access to data. This platform provides an up-to-date source of information that will significantly improve the quality of research carried out at the faculty.”

The launch of the Bloomberg Lab has been made possible thanks to coordinated work between the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Directorate of the Vicálvaro Library, the General Directorate of Libraries, and the Vice-Rectorate for Research, Doctorate and Library, with the collaboration of Campus Management and the Department of Informatics.
