Lorena Bermejo Santos, winner of the 'Thesis in 3 Minutes' competition

Lorena Bermejo Santos managed to explain her doctoral thesis in three minutes this Thursday, outperforming her four competitors. This earned her the prize in the Science category. Lorena summarized and explained her thesis, "Influence of climate change on the unsaturated zone of the soil and its impact on groundwater."

This PhD graduate from the URJC International Doctoral School won a prize of 600 euros, beating her four rivals in her field of knowledge.

Thanks to Lorena Bermejo Santos' performance, URJC secured first place in the Science category. In the other categories, the winners were from the other public universities in Madrid.

In Health Sciences, Laura Pastor Cabanillas (UAH); in Engineering, Sarah Mohammed Mollabashi (UAH); in Legal and Social Sciences, Julia de las Obras-Loscertales Sampériz (UCM); and in Arts and Humanities, José Alejandro Fernández Cuesta (UCM).

The event was presided over by Joaquín Rams, Vice-Rector for Research, Doctoral Studies and Library, Luz Martín Peña, Director of the International Doctoral School and Carmen de Hernando Larramendi, Vice-President of the Larramendi Foundation, sponsor of the competition.

The Thesis in 3 Minutes competition is a science outreach challenge organized by the five public universities of the Community of Madrid.
