The Rey Juan Carlos University, through the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) has brought 'Final Act' to the Exhibition Hall of the Móstoles City Hall, in the Plaza de la Cultura. The exhibition brings together the work developed throughout the degrees of various students from the Fashion Design and Management, Integrated Design and Image Management, and Fine Arts programs.
This initiative was born with the aim of showcasing the work of FAH students in a public setting. The public can observe how the artist views life and current social events, and how they express this perspective. It is also a way of giving back to society for the investment in education through art.
For Miguel Sánchez-Moñita Rodríguez, PhD in Fine Arts and professor in the drawing department at URJC, exhibiting student work in a real-world setting is an essential part of the process because “nothing makes sense if the work done is not shown. In art and creativity, when the artist displays their work, they cease to own it, and it is the viewer who completes it.”
The exhibition features a total of 90 works by 100 students throughout their university studies. Each degree program involved in the exhibition contributes variety and diversity from three different disciplines of study.
For the students participating in this exhibition, it represents a significant step in their personal development, as it provides an opportunity to have a space where they can express themselves. Lucía Gallardo Nogal, a Fine Arts student, comments that “it’s very exciting to go from seeing your work on an easel at home to a public space; it makes you value yourself as a person and as an artist, and appreciate your art. You see how you have a place where you can express ideas and feelings, capture them on a canvas, and not let them get lost in the void.”
The feedback from both the teachers and students who participated has been very positive. The exhibition has been very popular with visitors. On October 2nd, starting at 11:00 AM, there will be a guided tour and explanation of the works on display.
