Thus, the URJC ranks 82nd out of a total of 619 universities evaluated throughout this year. King Juan Carlos entered this ranking in 2014, the year in which it ranked 212 out of a total of 360 institutions and ranked thirteenth nationally. In the last edition it already achieved seventh place among all Spanish universities, and today it ranks third at this same level among the 29 classified universities in the country.

El Green Metric World University Ranking Each year, it evaluates the university's sustainable performance, as well as the increase in "green campuses" in said centres. At the same time, it intends that universities implement environmental management systems focused on the application of sustainable policies.

To do this, this study analyzes the use of spaces, the territory, energy efficiency, water, waste, transport, mobility, and the increase in higher education in sustainability. Among all the parameters, the URJC stands out for its waste management and obtains a score of 91,67 points out of 100. This takes into account the reduction of paper and plastic on its campuses, the recycling programs, the handling and the treatment of toxic, organic and inorganic waste, and the disposal of the sewage system.

The Rey Juan Carlos University leads, together with the University of Alcalá de Henares, the Campus of Excellence in Intelligent Energy. A joint effort between both institutions that reverts to great results in the field of environmental and energy sustainability.
