“If we want to continue being a cutting-edge educational institution, we must adapt to the new teaching needs, having more versatile and vibrant campuses that guarantee and promote the generation of knowledge. We must bet on classrooms that can be adapted to the new teaching methodologies, on spaces for teachers that are more open and flexible, that facilitate mobility and adequately attend to the needs of the delegated teaching units”, Ramos highlighted.

The URJC has modern and state-of-the-art facilities, distributed over its five campuses, which are a key element in guaranteeing quality teaching. For this reason, during this year the construction of the two student residences will begin, which will be located in Fuenlabrada and Móstoles. The new classroom building in Aranjuez has already been launched and will be followed by another that will be located on the Fuenlabrada campus. Likewise, work is also being done on projects for new buildings on the Móstoles and Alcorcón campuses, as well as to rehabilitate the recently acquired building on Calle de Buen Suceso, in Madrid.

At the forefront of research

The URJC is positioned at the forefront in research. The data from the Times Higher Education World University Ranking (THE) places the URJC as the third university in Spain for the impact of its publications, based on the citations of its scientific articles, with a score of 68.5 out of 100). Likewise, according to the classification prepared by the Social Platform for Transparency and Open Government, Dyntra, the URJC is the most transparent university in the Community of Madrid and one of the most transparent in Spain. "These data show that we are heading in the right direction and that the transformation of the URJC is already a reality, also in terms of transparency, and that proper management and ethical commitment are two of our priorities," Ramos highlighted.

Last year alone, the URJC managed to attract more than 40 new national research projects, 6 European ones - there are another six pending resolution -, and we obtained 41 grants for our research staff. In total, and through these actions to promote research, it has been possible to attract nearly 27 million euros to the university.

Review of academic procedures

The rector of the URJC has also highlighted that in order to guarantee the quality of the teachings of this public institution, 23 academic procedures have been reviewed with the aim of improving them and making them more efficient in their management. Among the procedures that have been examined, those of student access and enrollment bachelor's degrees, official master's degrees, doctorates and own qualifications. Likewise, recommendations for improvement have been reviewed and proposed in the procedures related to the granting of own and public scholarships, with the custody of exams, with the publication of minutes, with the procedure for obtaining academic exemption and with the management of complaints and suggestions.

Some measures for the control of educational quality that are added to those that have been implemented in recent months, such as the new inspection regulations or the internal control regulations, the creation of the vice-rector's office for Ethics, Good Governance and Transparency, which has already is working on the preparation of the university's Code of Ethics, the restructuring of the Postgraduate Vice-Rector's Office, the new protocol for the qualification of minutes or the launch of the Office of Culture and Open Knowledge.

The rector also wanted to congratulate the 59 new doctors from various disciplines who have received their degrees today. Ramos thanked him for his effort and dedication and wanted to recognize a job that, he has pointed out, "is rewarded today".
