Connected Lighting Technical Conference - UNEFE Connected Lighting Technical Conference - UNEFE

On January 25, a Connected Lighting Technical Conference organized by the Energy Efficiency Unit (UNEFE) was held at the Móstoles Campus of the Rey Juan Carlos University, where the teaching possibilities of the Living Lighting Laboratory and the innovations in connected lighting.

A few years ago, the Rey Juan Carlos University placed the change from traditional lighting to an LED system at the top of its strategic energy efficiency plan. During 2018, the exterior lighting of the Móstoles campus was changed to this technology, achieving a power reduction of almost 70%. The Living Lighting Laboratory was also included in this project, oriented to its educational use.

Continuing with this idea, on January 25, UNEFE organized a technical conference on connected lighting given by SIGNIFY (PHILIPS) and aimed at students from the Rey Juan Carlos University. The purpose of this day was twofold. On the one hand, the scope and teaching possibilities of the Living Laboratory of Lighting were presented, which consists of:

  • Group of point-to-point remote-managed outdoor luminaires with the Interact City cloud software and state-of-the-art luminaires, among which is one equipped with a photovoltaic solar panel.
  • Experimental classroom equipped with a Schoolvision color temperature change system to improve teaching performance.

And on the other, the latest developments in connected lighting were shown:

  • PoE (Power Over Ethernet) technology, which incorporates electrical power to a standard LAN infrastructure, allowing global communication between systems.
  • LiFi (Lightfidelity) technology consisting of wireless communication using visible light that has a much wider bandwidth, instead of radio frequency waves (WiFi).
  • SpaceWise technology is a wireless lighting system.
  • HealWell technology is a lighting system centered on people.
