The Identity Manual is the basic tool for any member of the university community who needs to use the corporate visual identity. In addition to finding logos, the appropriate fonts and graphic elements; You can find the guidelines to follow to use photographs, what is sought to express with them and some application examples.
The objective of the modification is to better connect with the audience, transmitting an image according to the institution. In addition, it seeks to improve the Manual as a tool, with more resources and easier to use but without altering the main pieces of the corporate identity.
The URJC logo and colors are recognizable emblems that identify the institution, but the visual universe around it had hardly changed since its creation, nor had it adapted to the new needs and evolution of the University.
The main novelty of the Manual is the update of the visual expression that was disconnected from the evolution of the University. "Teaching has evolved a lot in recent years and the way we relate to teachers and students has undergone drastic changes," says Gonzalo Peláez, in charge of the modifications.
One of the changes that can most affect members of the university community is the change in typography. The “Gill Sans” typeface will remain as the University logo, but users are asked to use “Arial” for emails and “Inter” for documents, since it is much more contemporary and versatile. The “Arial” font is pre-installed in all text editors, but in order to use “Inter” it is necessary to download it from Google Fonts.
For the installation of "Inter" the steps to follow are the following:
- In the search engine write "Google Fonts".
- Once inside Google Fonts where it says "search" write the typeface you are looking for, in this case "Inter".
- Several fonts will appear and you should look for the one that says “Inter (Rasmus Andersson)”, which is usually located in the first row in the third column.
- Click on the typeface and, once inside it, in the upper right corner, select “Dowload family” and a compressed .zip file will be downloaded to the computer.
- Open the .zip file and click on “Inter-VariableFont_slnt, wght”.
- After this, a screen will open asking you to install the font. Click on “install” and the font to be used in the documents is already on the computer.
The document has also updated and completed some of the most commonly used templates among teachers and students, such as power point, documents to generate brochures and printed and digital posters.
During the use of the previous version, several problems had been located that have been solved, such as the management of the brand's fonts, the use of photographs and, above all, the connection with the audience and recovering the consistency that had been created over time. lost. Some of the pieces available to users have also been improved, such as desktop backgrounds.
By improving the tool, it is expected that users will be able to use it in a more comfortable way and that the University will be perceived as a modern institution not only in classrooms and educational quality, but also in visual expression. This will be perceived over time as the guidelines and recommendations are applied.
In short, the change has focused on making the use of identity components more up-to-date, contemporary and versatile without losing consistency and identification. The Manual is available in the same location as the previous one and can be accessed through this link.
In addition to all this, members of the university community who have a signature in their email must change it to the new format that can be found in the Manual. Through this link explains how to set the new signature.
All these modifications have been carried out by Gonzalo Peláez Comas, an independent professional with more than 15 years of experience in Consulting and Strategic Management of Brand Projects.
