The Rey Juan Carlos University will host on June 10 the virtual conference "The four pillars of care for dependency" with the aim of publicizing the care alternatives that exist for the elderly. The seminar will be held entirely on the Microsoft Teams platform and is open to the entire university community, in addition to professionals in the sector. Similarly, attendees may recognize up to 0,25 ECTS credits with their participation.

During the conference, professionals from all areas of dependency will participate, such as professionals from residences, home care or day centers. In the words of Domingo Palacios, organizer of the series of conferences, generally “we are focused on hospitals and there are many socio-health services for the elderly and since they are unknown, they are not understood. Therefore, we want to make them known”.

The activity will encompass several specific topics. Two round tables will be held in which the need to listen to users, the elderly and families will be discussed. It will also be discussed how the elderly who are not institutionalized are cared for, that is, who are not in a residence, but who may need some socio-health help.

Also, the day will have three main papers. The inaugural will be given by Domingo Palacios himself, in which he will explain the need for a comprehensive model for the elderly. The second will have Inmaculada Cerejido as a speaker. Cerejido is the president of the Madrid Association for Dependency Care (Amade) and she will speak about the four fundamental services of care for the elderly. Lastly, the third and last conference will deal with the integrating role of residences between the community and the neighbourhoods, and will be given by Javier Gómez Martín, director of a day center in Madrid.
