Culture, sport and debate among the activities of university life of the URJC

A new academic year begins at URJC and, with it, a new offer of leisure, culture and sports activities. With the return of greater presence in the classroom and the celebration of the university's 25th anniversary, this academic year is full of projects and events to expand the offer of university life among students and other members of the university community.

URJC Choir and Orchestra

From the Culture area, the registration period for new members of the URJC Choir and Orchestra is now open. Oriented towards instrumentalists, the Orchestra will audition for new members on Saturday, September 25, from 10:00 to 12:00, while the Choir will do so on Tuesday, September 28, between 19:00 and 21:00 p.m.

The rehearsals of the Orchestra start on October 2 and will take place on Saturdays from 10:00 to 12:00 in the Music Room S010 of the Laboratorios III building on the Móstoles campus. As a complement, this year the possibility of participating in a musical produced by RESAD is being explored, and collaboration will be made with the URJC Musical Workshop. The URJC Choir, aimed at the entire university community, will include sessions on vocal technique, singing from a varied repertoire and from different eras and styles. From the Culture service they indicate that it is not necessary to have musical knowledge and as a complement this year, proposals related to the 25th anniversary of the URJC will be attended, which will give more prominence to the group.

The rehearsals start on October 5 and will take place on Tuesdays from 19:00 p.m. to 21:00 p.m., also in the Music Room S010 of the Laboratorios III building on the Móstoles campus. The places to be part of the group are already sold out. Both those registered for the Choir and the Orchestra will receive confirmation to participate in the auditions on September 25 and 28.

"The opening of inscriptions for Choir and Orchestra are only the first proposals, in the next few days we will inform about the activities of Theater, Musicals, Modern Song and University on Stage", says Elena Díaz, head of the Culture area.

Tennis and paddle tennis ranking

The Sports Service also continues to announce the launch of the activities scheduled for this course at the URJC. At the moment, it is the turn for the tennis and paddle tennis rankings, which start on September 27 on the Alcorcón campus courts.

In the tennis modality there is a single category in which men and women can participate. The paddle tennis is also a unique category and male, female and mixed couples can participate. For the celebration of each ranking, there must be a minimum of eight participants.

The competition begins on September 27 and ends in June 2022 (a tournament will be played during the month of May/June for the players with the best positions in the ranking and who have played at least two phases). The registration price will be 15 euros per phase in the two modalities and will include a gift of two cans of balls. Enrollment in the next link.

Debate Club and URJCMun

In addition to culture and sports, the Rey Juan Carlos University also has the URJC Debate Club, a proposal created by students. The objective of the course is to train students in the fields of debate, oratory, negotiation and documentation and thus be able to face the challenges that both the university and the world of work demand of them.

The course lasts about 40 hours and offers the possibility of competing with the Debate Club in the different national and international competitions in which it participates. The recognition, both personal and professional, that allows the practice of oratory and debate is an asset of increasing value in today's society.

The club opened its registration period at the beginning of September and in the next few days the time in which the pre-registered have been selected will be confirmed. From that moment, they will be granted a period to formalize the payment, which will end on September 24. More information in the following link.

Another of the outstanding activities in university life is URJCmun. A MUN (Model United Nations) is an event where the different committees of the United Nations are simulated and in which each participant represents a country and its ideas. “It is a very good activity for debate and oratory, but also on a social level”, explains Alessandra Pereira, general secretary of URJCmun TEEN 2022, the adolescent version, for students from 1st year of ESO to 2nd year of Baccalaureate.

The tenth edition of URJCmun will take place from February 1 to 4 and students will be able to participate as delegates, as part of the Press team or as part of the Staff team.
