“Give visibility to activities related to renewable energies”. This is the main objective of the I Conference Advances in Renewable Energies and their Applications in Engineering. The event will take place on the Móstoles campus on October 14 and 15, with registration open until October 10.

Due to the health situation, the capacity for face-to-face presentations is limited, and they can be followed remotely through a videoconference. In addition, students who attend all sessions will obtain 0,7 ECTS credits, recognized by means of a certificate.

A multifaceted event

The conference was born as an initiative of teachers, students and graduates of the Higher School of Experimental Sciences and Technology (ESCET). “As we have seen, there are no seminars on renewable energy on the Móstoles campus,” narrates Imene Yahyaoui, professor in the area of Electronic Technology at URJC. Together with Joaquín Vaquero López, a professor at the URJC in the same area, she devised and managed the sessions. “When we found out that the University had called for grants to organize congresses and seminars, we decided to get together with other professors from different areas to carry them out.”

During the event, a wide variety of topics will be discussed: the result of a diverse organization team from different areas of knowledge. Some are energy conversion, management and transmission, biofuels, materials for clean energy generation, smart grids, zero energy buildings and sustainable cities, among others. The conference will feature speakers of great international prestige; as well as some practical activities, such as the visit to the Technological Support Center (CAT).

One of the differentiating elements of this congress is its focus not only on theory, but also on the application of renewable energies. “We will analyze what some of the leading companies in Spain are doing, what they contribute”, continues Imene Yahyaoui. In this way, a more practical and realistic approach to the matter is obtained.

Presence necessary to share knowledge

On the other hand, the collaborative nature of the conference stands out, as it becomes a meeting to meet and exchange ideas among professionals in the sector. In this context, attending the sessions is the key to their success. “We are many professionals and we have many points in common”, explains Imene Yahyaoui. "If we don't have a meeting, not so many cooperation ideas come up." This is expressed, for example, in the possibility that students (especially doctoral students) have to send a promotional poster of their work or research project, which will be exhibited during the conference. In this way, it facilitates the scientific dissemination that future doctors need, and constitutes an incentive for a more direct participation of students.
