Innovation and development, pillars of the university

The series of videos “SDG Ambassadors” is the new initiative of the Vice-rectorate for Planning and Strategy, with the goal of highlighting the URJC research groups linked to the Sustainable Development Goals

The Vice President for Planning and Strategy of the Rey Juan Carlos University has started this month with another new project: “SDG Ambassadors”. Made in conjunction with the Audiovisual Content Production Unit (UPCA), it consists of a series of videos on the different URJC research groups and their link with some of the Sustainable Development Goals. The main objective of this initiative is to value and give visibility to the impact that these groups have on the 2030 Agenda.

The first video of the cycle deals with the “Clinical and community epidemiology”. It focuses on SDG 3, "Health and well-being", and explores the work of the URJC High Performance and Innovation in Clinical and Community Epidemiology research group. Ángel Gil, the main researcher of said group, has starred in the interview. In it, he narrates the objectives, achievements and projects of the research group.

Studying aging, oral and maternal and child health in developing countries and creating the herpes zoster vaccine are some of the challenges for researchers in Clinical and Community Epidemiology. However, as in the case of all other SDGs, it defines its purpose as accessibility: “that all the discoveries of this group reach the general population.”

Giving visibility and valuing the work of URJC researchers has been the main driving force behind launching this initiative. "They are a benchmark for the university community," says Daniel Gayo Lafee, academic director of the URJC_2030 Project at the Rey Juan Carlos University. “They also serve as an example of research groups in their contribution to the SDGs.”

The following videos will be made progressively throughout this academic year. The SDGs they deal with will depend on each specific research group. One of them will deal with Objective 6, “Water and sanitation”; and another will have computing and issues related to it, such as education, as its central axis.
