The performing arts as a field of work in Audiovisual Communication

On November 22 and 25, the URJC is organizing an online conference on new visual technologies and their application in theatre, opera, music or dance. The presentations are part of the I Regional Congress of Amateur Theater of Madrid, projected by the Federation of Amateur Theater of the Community of Madrid, FETAM.

Today, it is common to relate and pigeonhole Audiovisual Communication students and professionals in film and television, ignoring other types of outlets that are just as interesting and important, such as the performing arts, music, theater, opera or theater. dance.

The search for technical profiles capable of creating and producing audiovisual pieces that accompany the staging of different artistic performances, offering a more complete and enriching visual experience, is becoming more and more frequent.

That is why the Rey Juan Carlos University organizes on November 22 and 25 the I Conference on new audiovisual technologies in scenic spaces, framed in the I Regional Congress of Amateur Theater of Madrid organized by the Federation of Amateur Theater of the Community of Madrid, FETAM.

“The objective of these conferences is that all those students who work with audiovisuals learn and delve into new fields of work. It is almost always believed that audiovisuals only work in film and television, while there is a field in theater that is hardly explored”, explains Isleny Cruz, one of the professors who organizes the meetings.

Cruz explains that it is difficult to find filmmakers specialized in theater and 'videomapping', since there are not many of them. "Precisely what we want is to expand the field of work and applications to future audiovisual producers using new technologies," he says.

Although audiovisual students are the main focus of these conferences, they are also aimed at the entire young audience specializing in theater, both directors and filmmakers. “They also have a huge void. They are used to working with the classical scene and the field of new technologies is not easy for them”, says Isleny Cruz.

Three presentations by audiovisual professionals

On Monday the 22nd at 17:30 pm, the conference will open with the talk 'The audiovisual in multimedia performance', whose speakers will be Saida Santana, an expert in audiovisual language in the performing arts; and Vicente Sanz, director and coordinator of the Audiovisual Production Company of the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the URJC.

On the same day, the 22nd, at 19:00 p.m., it will be the turn of the stage director and audiovisual creator, Rául del Águila, who will offer the paper 'Expressive potential of audiovisual media on stage'. On Thursday the 25th at 17:30 p.m., the conference will be closed by the expert in 'video scenes', Álvaro Luna, who has collaborated with different stage directors such as Gerardo Vega and Mario Gas, among many others, in the inclusion of videos and audiovisual projections in shows of opera, theater, music and dance.
