A total of 700kg of pumpkin have been distributed this week at the Madrid (Vicálvaro) and Móstoles campuses and at the Quintana Argüelles headquarters of the Rey Juan Carlos University. The reason: an awareness campaign on healthy and sustainable eating organized by the Green Office and the Healthy University Program.

'The university gives you pumpkins' is the name of this initiative in collaboration with the Madrid City Council with the aim of promoting a healthy and sustainable diet among the university community.

The activity, which is part of the European FoodWave project, has been "a complete success because the pumpkins ran out before the time and people have come en masse, not only to collect the products, but also to carry out the surveys and receive the training on the activity”, explains Ainhoa Rodríguez, from the Healthy University Program.

'Projects that feed'

In addition to this activity, the Green Office and the Healthy University Program held yesterday, November 18, the online conference 'Projects that feed', whose objective is to give visibility to initiatives related to healthy and sustainable eating, one of the lines of action within the URJC-2030 project.

The Madrid City Council participated in this conference, which spoke about the FoodWave initiative; and the TooGoodToGo platform, an application to reduce food waste, "because in the end it is a healthy and sustainable eating activity," adds Ainhoa Rodríguez.

The URJC project 'Food is not wasted' and the initiatives being developed by the association of students and professionals, Ecotopía, were also presented. Finally, the 'Nutrilectures' project was presented, which aims to promote open scientific reading clubs in research centers.
