The URJC Choir and Orchestra Christmas Concert is back

The performance will take place this Friday, December 17 at the Pontifical Basilica of San Miguel. The repertoire of pieces that will be performed includes some well-known works such as 'Hallelujah' by L. Cohen and the Forrest Gump Suite, as well as classic pieces by Mendelssohn and traditional Christmas carols.

El Choir and Orchestra of the Rey Juan Carlos University They celebrate their annual Christmas Concert next Friday, December 17, which returns after two years due to the pandemic. The event will take place in the Pontifical Basilica of San Miguel on Calle de San Justo number 4 in Madrid at 20:XNUMX p.m.

With 50 members in the Choir and 30 in the Senior Choir, in addition to the 25 musicians that make up the Orchestra, the Rey Juan Carlos University Christmas Concert returns with more enthusiasm than ever to the Basilica of San Miguel. A "movie" repertoire will enliven a safe performance and with all the anti-COVID-19 protocols of the Basilica itself, such as ventilation, distance and use of a mask by the public and interpreters.

Both the Choir and the Orchestra of the Rey Juan Carlos University are conducted by Gemma Camps Galmés, who describes it as a “triumph” that this concert has been scheduled despite the circumstances: “It is a great pleasure to make music again together despite the difficulties, but we have achieved it”, explains the director.

Program

The Christmas performance will be divided into three parts. The first in which the URJC Choir will perform a total of eight pieces 'a cappella', including the well-known 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen, arranged by director Gemma Camps; 'El noi de la mare', traditional Catalan; 'Deck the hall', traditional Welsh; or traditional Christmas carols such as 'Silent Night', by F. Gruber.

The second part of the show will feature the entire URJC Orchestra, which will perform the renowned 'Forrest Gump Suite' by A. Silvestri and arranged by Calvin Custer. Finally, as a culmination, the Choir and the Orchestra will perform together to represent works such as 'I'm dreaming of home', by P.
