A team from the URJC, awarded at the CTF International MetaRed

'Capture The Flag' is a competition that aims to promote cybersecurity education and talent among Ibero-American Higher Education Institutions. The winners will collect their awards in a virtual ceremony on February 23.

The Rey Juan Carlos University has been awarded in the CTF International MetaRed awards, a competition that promotes the development of cybersecurity capacity and education in the different Ibero-American universities and academic centers of higher education.  

The competition is organized by MetaRed, a collaborative project that makes up a network of managers in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) of public and private Ibero-American HEIs.  

The Cybersecurity Groups of Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico and Portugal have been the organizers of the International CTF as part of their activities to celebrate the month of Cybersecurity. In the 2021 edition, the second, the competition has added five new stages and has been structured into two competition areas: one free and global, in which any team could participate, and another limited to the IES MetaRed. 

The URJC team, led by Sergio Pérez Peló, has won one of the cumulative prizes by stages of the CTF, in the Category circumscribed to the IES of MetaRed.  

The competition welcomed a total of 5.202 participants between the 5 stages. A total of six Spanish universities participated, including the URJC, which won a prize of 900 dollars. Universities from countries such as Poland, Singapore, Korea, the United States or Slovenia have also participated.  

The Award Ceremony: International CTF MetaRed 2021 will be held on February 23 at 17:00 p.m. (Spain time). The Cybersecurity researcher, Leonardo Nve, will participate as a 'speaker', who will speak about R&D in offensive techniques in cybersecurity.
