The URJC participates in the XVIII Congress of Biometrics

From May 25 to 27, the Rey Juan Carlos University and UC3M have brought together the best scientists in this field at this event.

Biometrics is not only the development and application of statistical and mathematical theory and methods in the world of health sciences, but also in agriculture, biomedical science and public health, ecology, environmental sciences , forestry and even economics. 

Last week, from the Department of Computing and Statistics of the Rey Juan Carlos University and the Department of Statistics of the Carlos III University, they organized the eighteenth edition of the Biometrics Congress. An opportunity in which the best scientists in the field shared their knowledge about this field. 

On May 25, 26 and 27, those attending the UC3M Puerta de Toledo Campus were able to learn about the latest news on biometrics. The plenaries Geert Verbeke from Ku Leuven University (Belgium), Christel Faes from Hasselt University (Belgium), Kerrie Mengersen from Queensland University of Technology (Australia) and Pere Puig from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​were the star guests of this Congress. 

Not only were the conferences the highlight, the training for the attendees and the prizes for the youngest researchers, for communication with a gender perspective or for the best poster made also had their space during this edition. 

On behalf of the Rey Juan Carlos University, María Eugenia Castellanos acted as Director of the Scientific Committee, with the Organizing Committee also participating. “I think it is understandable that, after a few years without holding the Congress due to Covid, this year the central issue is dealt with from an epidemiological point of view,” explains the professor in the area of ​​Statistics and Operations Research, who emphasizes that “ there are also analyzes about sports or agriculture”.
